u5112 has been sent to Acton for the long term, as there is a desire to keep a unit as a source of spares in case of serious problems, e.g. collision, of the two RAT units. u5110 & u5234 are the designated RAT units.

Well there's been so much talk of preserved units etc, including the following; 5062, 5094, 5110, 5112, 5116, 5232, and 5234. Of course 5232 is now scrapped, 5112 is effectively condemned, and the suggestion that 5062 is the chosen one was spewed out of the mouth to create the most bull***t ever heard of in this field.
I hope that the claims of a third unit being saved are valid, and now I don't give a monkey's which one it is as long as there is one other being preserved.

Thus making metman's favourite A62 (5189) the only A62 left. They have served us very well over the years... Also we should be thankful that they were refurbed at all, still we have 5234 and 5110 to plough up and down the Met for the odd special occasion.

Will 5022-5023 be going on its own on Wednesday?
Interesting that 5116-5117 is booked to go, as I don't think this was originally due away until after the Olympics.
Best Wishes
Green Lion.

Few weeks ago talking with the staff at Northwood siding, they said 9 and half trains where due to come out this way before removal by this site stopped. So it looks like a 4 car would be coming out that way at some point by what they said. Will 5022-5023 be going on its own on Wednesday? Interesting that 5116-5117 is booked to go, as I don't think this was originally due away until after the Olympics. Best Wishes Green Lion.

Hi all!
Did T717 run today (Mon 09/07/12) with 5116/5117-5230/5231? as haven't seen any reports on here yet.
Is there a scrap run booked for Wednesday as well please?
MTIA for any info.
Best Wishes
Green Lion.

Does this indicate that 5022 may make 51 years, now that it is with 5060 and there's only half a train needs scrapping?

So is 5090/5091 going tomorrow then? which will then leave the 4 remaining 8-car trains.
Best Wishes

I was hoping/thinking. 4 and 1/2 trains were being kept back for the games. With the 1/2 being exchangeable with maybe a faulty unit from an 8 car set? 5090 being a double ender. This seems to work. Just a theory of mine!

After Wednesday morning's move, there will be 4x8 left until after "the Games". How often they will run remains to be seen. The "desire" is that they won't, but we all know you can't always have what you "desire".

Is there a fault with 5090? It's a double ender and 5022 which replaced it with 5060 is a single ender

There's at least one out at the moment - seen from Waitrose car park in Ruislip. Too far away to see compo.

Sorry to ask, but is there a planned last day of A-stock in ''normal service'', not the railtour, as I'd much prefer to experience that than a tour?

Train 431 and 456 [5189+5034] are out there today ...
I too, am hoping that there will be an official 'last train in passenger' service as there was with the Victoria/67, and not a "rail tour" type trip.
i'm sure someone, somewhere .. must be in the know, but if they're hanging on to four sets until after the Olympics, it may not be until September!

Another little milestone today. More S8 stock available than the bare weekday timetable needs. First time I think. 50 S and 4 A available this morning. Good ride home on 6095 though, first train that turned up.

Despite it being fairly late in the day, there's not been a decision made on when A-stock will stop running in timetabled service. There's an element of caution in declaring a final day after the Chesham shuttle farewell that wasn't, but it will probably be in September. The previous comments about 'desire' to not run the A-stock is in large part because they have very little allowance left on the clock before heavy maintenance will be needed, with costs and staffing challenges now that the depot is geared up for S-stock maintenance.

the ability to run the chesham branch as a standalone has been a useful one.
if the need to reintroduce that option has arisen what is to stop it happening again in the future. the question then arises also is if it was badly thought the idea of ending this officially.

It isn't possible to run 4 car S stocks to fit in the Chalfont bay. End of story I'm afraid!

Not sure. I was expecting another unit to go but from all the talk yesterday, it appears 5090 is on it's own. Only 5231 and 6231 left at Northwood last night.

I'll definitely be on the Met on Monday with my camera so if anyone hears anything about where the remaining A Stock will be, I'd be very grateful
