Is there any particular reason why tank wagons are used as barriers when moving the S Stock. Back in the day it used to be guards' vans?

I think the S stocks are unbraked when being moved

Unusual S7 action at Hammersmith spotted on Twitter...
Meanwhile, at #Hammersmith, little S7 train dreams big dreams about going to Amersham on the #metline...

I would blame the Signaller, except they're on holiday.

Unusual S7 action at Hammersmith spotted on Twitter... Meanwhile, at #Hammersmith, little S7 train dreams big dreams about going to Amersham on the #metline.. Looks like code 6 or 06 erroneously entered instead of 606 ! easily done, as is entering 855 at Wimbledon for Edgware Road; when the codes are 850 Wimbledon-Edgware Rd, 755 Edgware Rd-Wimbledon. (855 at Wimbledon; train would show “Gunnersbury District Line All stations”)

I've seen quite a few different variations over the last 18 months, and if you go back through my Twitter there's a few photos from the other end of the station. In this instance it is often down to how slow the TCMS system is on the S stock, particularly when livening up. Even when pressing all the correct digits, not all my register, and it's easy to miss that out when you're busy doing everything else that is required of a train operator. I would blame the Signaller, except they're on holiday. And a very nice holiday it is too.

21029 back in service following ATC modification at Derby. 21035 not noted as returned as yet but 21001 has been to Derby and back and is now ATC modified. 21005 believed to be at Derby possibly along with 21105 and / or 21109.

An update to this situation, with over 100 S Stock trains successfully returned to Derby for ATC/CBTC fitment it has been the turn of the remaining two S7+1 trains.
The second S7+1 21323/24 returned to Ruislip on 14 August as a 7-car, M2D car 25384 has remained at Derby.
The last S7+1 21327/28 arrived at Derby on 13 August. Will be interesting to see if this retains its extra M2D car 25386 upon its return, as this was the one selected to remain on the Metropolitan Line for the MLX Metropolitan Line Extension. Standard S7 21567/68 was the additional train built to balance this for use on Circle/District/H&C.

That seems a logical outcome assuming you want to simplify maintenance regimes. As there is no Croxley link then presumably the original compliment of S8 trains will now be sufficient to meet service needs on the Met.
Removing the extra section from the non standard S7+1s just means the S7 fleet has a spare train which will presumably be identical to all the other S7s.
The follow on question is of course what happens to the two spare sections. I doubt Derby will want to store them indefinitely. So where would they be best stored - please do not suggest Booths!
I suspect they will eventually return to LUL for safekeeping somewhere so they could provide a substitute section to cover for defects in other units, or sadly even a source of spare parts.
I guess the best place for them is one of the S7 depots. Has any of the S7 depots got room to park them long term - presumably at the buffer end of a never used non-electrified siding if there are any still left?

Non-electrified sidings, gosh how many of those are left? Only one that sticks to mind is Amersham as the one at Ricmansworth (not really a siding and more relic bay platform) was lifted some time around the bridge being replaced. In any case these are not the king of secure environment to house dormant rolling stock.
Obviously there’s the LTM’s patch at Acton but that’s always going to be filled to the brim.
What about the Old Stores Road at Lille Bridge, provides it still exists, was that on the juice?

There is the siding at Northwood where the A stock left from, again not especially secure, but I don't think it's electrified. There is the north end of the shunting neck at Loughton - but good luck getting S stock there in one piece. South Harrow sidings probably have space now the 83 stock are gone - but they were heavily graffitied while there so probably not the ideal spot.

It is surprising there aren't a few odd roads spare somewhere in the depths of Neasden/Ealing/Upminster, but the recent rebuildings no doubt have reduced/removed everything but that which is directly justifiable and has specific purpose. Ruislip maybe?

Why not electrified? I would imagine if anywhere, they would be stored at Neasden.

I cant imagine any outside sidings being suitable because of security, there is no real need for them to be stored on LUL or bombardier property, other sites are available for rent.

The benefit of storage on LU property would be speed and ease of access should the need arise. If they are to be cannibalised for parts then I strongly suspect that storage in an S-stock maintenance depot would be strongly preferred.

I understand one S Stock car will be going into the ERU compound in Acton Works.

For the good of the vehicles it might be better to resist further storage location speculation...

Seems the S stock are finally getting their CIS systems updated for some of the recent network changes. At Liverpool Street unit 21359/60 included London Overground and TfL Rail on both the PIDs and DVA. It was noticeably different, in a similar way to how changes have been noticeable in the post on Northern and Jubilee stock.
I don't know how long the change has been live, nor what other units have been updated.
CIS = customer information system PID = passenger information display DVA = digital voice announcer

I did notice on Tuesday evening “this is Wood Lane, alight here for Westfield London”, which I took to be new.

I think it was mid-November when I realized Wembley Park announcements now included Wembley Arena aswell the stadium.

Aha, I was wondering whether the CIS update would make this thread. I was surprised we've got all but the last 3 or 4 trains done before anyone commented. Who will be first to spot and write about the little typing error in one announcement... Well, I think there's just one.
And I hope it was Exit for Westfield not Alight, or we have another mistake.
