With the new working timetable from May, how significant is the improvement in journey times once its only S stock that the timetable is based on? Curious how many minutes are anticipated to be saved on an end to end run, such as Wimbledon to Upminster No significant changes are coming this year, we will still have the legacy signalling and speed restrictions as now. 'runtime improvements' are planned from December 2020. slight adjustments to District Line running time from 21 May (only variations shown): Upminster Bridge and Upminster EB +½ Hornchurch / Elm Park: EB -½ / WB -½ Dagenham Heathway and Dagenham East EB +½ Becontree and Dagenham Heathway EB -½ East Ham and Barking EB +½ East Ham and Upton Park EB -½ Upton Park and Plaistow WB -½ Plaistow and West Ham WB +½ Aldgate East and Whitechapel EB +½ Cannon Street and Monument EB -½ Mansion House and Cannon Street EB +½ Blackfriars and Mansion House EB -½ Temple and Blackfriars EB +½ Temple / Embankment: EB -½ / WB -½ Westminster and St. James’s Park WB +½ Victoria and Sloane Square WB -½ Bayswater / Notting Hill Gate: EB -½ / WB -½ Notting Hill Gate and High Street Kensington WB +½ West Brompton and Earl’s Court EB +½ Fulham Broadway and West Brompton EB -½ Fulham Broadway and Parsons Green WB -½ Parsons Green and Putney Bridge WB -½ Southfields and Wimbledon Park WB +½ Earl’s Court and Kensington (Olympia) WB -½ West Kensington and Earl’s Court EB -½ Barons Court and West Kensington EB +½ Gunnersbury and Turnham Green EB -½ Kew Gardens and Gunnersbury EB +½ Kew Gardens and Richmond WB +½ .

I haven't posted any items for some time. I am a spotter, visiting London 5/6 times a year-in an effort to see all Underground stock. I am now down to needing the following to clear:-21385/21386/21467/21468/21547/21548/21553/21554.Can anyone confirm if these are actually in service, please?Looking at the stock list,it looks like 21467/21468/21547/21548 are not in traffic.I have spent ages at Earl's Court/Edgware Road-but to no avail. My next visit to London is 5th June.Any help would be very helpful. With thanks-Martyn

21467/68 and 21547/48 have not yet been delivered to London. The others are in service on the three Lines, although trains are now returning to Derby for ATC fitment. Also 21319/20 is now operating as an S7 on the District/Circle/H&C Lines.

As per the deliveries list, they exist but have yet to arrive in London as they are both ATC* test units, and are currently still up at Old Dalby. Leading on from that, I can't imagine that it'll be too long before they come to London, as there can't be that much use for them now that we aren't far off having the first bit of real world kit operational, and an additional 2 ATC fitted units would come in quite handy I'd have thought. *Automatic Train Control

Another view of an S stock train that has been fitted for ATC. The only visible identification are the two black 'horns' (sic) on the roof at each end of the train. Simon

Just wondering why the Metropolitain line is still using an S7+1 train on its line? the seating layout of this train is completly unsuitable for the Met line, I thought it was bought in whilst the S8 was having mods done, but these must have been done by now. any ideas?

AIUI, modifications are still ongoing. Also one S7+1 has been purchased permanently for the Met Line for the Croxley Rail Link/MLX.

I'm not quite sure I follow what you mean by "Tooling Up" in this case... my understanding was that the S7 & S8 were remarkably similiar, just with an extra seating layout and an extra carriage?

There are currently two S7+1 on the Metropolitan Line, 21323/24 which will only remain while S8s are returned to Derby for ATC fitment, 21327/28 which, has been mentioned will remain permanently as the extra train for the MLX Metropolitan Line Extension (if it gets done!).
Building of S8 trains with their different seating layout had already finished, so to build an extra S7 with an additional car was the easiest to do.
Only 4 of 58 S8 trains have returned from Derby after ATC fitment.

The transverse seats are a different design. Setting up a production line just for eight cars would be expensive.

ANY seating layout would be unsuitable for some part of the Met with a high freqency metro at one end and an outer suburban railway at the other.

MLX might be on hold but the extra train is built and delivered. S7s had quite few design changes from S8 that you can't see to improve reliability and reduce build costs. So it was more logical to build another of those, as S7+1, than revert to true S8 for the extra train.

The most obvious change to me is the plate on the bottom of the doors (grey on the S8s vs aluminium on the S7s, and with different rivets) and the reduction in the number of emergency alarms on later S7s.
There are no doubt more changes which aren't immediately visible.

At one time, Neasden would have re-arranged the seating to S8 specification. For some reason, such an idea would now be deemed utterly fantastic.

At one time, Neasden would have re-arranged the seating to S8 specification. Possibly they would, but only if there were suitable seats still being manufactured.

IIRC, there is equipment that is actually located differently in an s7 to an s8. I can't see them changing the seats around, and leaving a single train with equipment in a different location.

IIRC, there is equipment that is actually located differently in an s7 to an s8. I can't see them changing the seats around, and leaving a single train with equipment in a different location. Quite frankly, I can't see them doing anything except continue to run an occasional train with all-longitudinal seating. The difference is marginal. If a few passengers switch to Marylebone, then so be it. From what I read, there are bigger incentives. This issue of the Met service dropping behind in speed and comfort has long interested me. During the early May bank holiday, I had planned to travel from Marylebone to Baker Street via Amersham, to make the comparison. Regrettably, and for family reasons, the trip was commuted to Denham Golf Club and return; and even that didn't take place due to timetable difficulties. I have some ideas, though, which I'll be working on over the coming weeks. Thanks to domh245 for the link to the Rolling Stock Info Sheets. I now have something to work with.

I've given up looking if there was a page showing the member name and their last 10 posts and under which categories I might be able to find it. otherwise its so easy to spend hours trying to find your original post particularly if the post was never in the right place to begin with.
