Was the Weed killing train. Been replaced with a flat wagon with a spray tank bolted on top.

That would explain it. Is it now at Acton Works or has it gone to the scrap already?

The weedkiller has been up for scrap for years!
Hopefully it can be stripped for spares to keep the museums 38 going.
Nice to see the old central line diagram!

The museum should look at the weedkiller's roof and refreshed with knowledge, return and correct the awful brown one they lumbered the heritage 38 with.

It is interesting to see yellow tube stock, even though it is part of the engineering fleet.

have you noticed that as well as the Central line diagrams, the RAT still retains the passenger alarm pulls in the centre sections of the car? I am trying to get/make some for the restoration of my 62 DM.

Do these trains usually run on a Saturday?
I'm flying into London for one day only soon and it would be nice to get out and see one.

Is it worrying that they look smarter than some of the actual tube trains?

Is it worrying that they look smarter than some of the actual tube trains? Indeedily, but I am further worried that there are no destination blinds and no red doors. The punters might wonder desperately where the train is headed for and why it has no doors. ;D ;D Seriously tho', you have a point.

Have the Central's RATs always been 8-cars long?

I think the original Sandite was an 8-car 62TS including the special red, white & blue trailer. When a second train was needed they used a 6-car 92TS with a converted trailer car. After it was decided to return some of these units to passenger use, a 5-car 62TS was formed from withdrawn cars. At present the 5-car is used at the west end and the 8-car at the east.

Who operate the RATS on the central or any other line for that matter? Is it regular train ops from depots where they are stabled or is it a Transplant job?

I've managed to see the west end run a few times recently, but up until today didn't have a camera with me. Superb seeing 1962 stock on the Central Line again, complete with all the great sound affects when it stops at North Acton. Times noted were; 13.30 approx at West Acton (towards Ealing Bwy) 13.45 approx at North Acton (didn't run to White City, instead returned to West Ruislip) The train indicator boards are a massive help with tracking train down!

Who operate the RATS on the central or any other line for that matter? On the Central it's test train drivers, such as our very own trainopd78

Last year Central line Instructor Operators were called into run the 6 car 92TS sandite on the west end. This was owing to a shortage of test crew working on other projects.
I fear the Met's days are numbered, it had been intended for it to have been transferred to test crew the leaf fall season.

Test Train Section are supposedly taking over from the 2011 season but there are now reports that this is no longer the case. Wait and see I guess!

Hello, First post here, but just thought i'd share some photos from Saturday (20th), when i went searching for the Central line sandites. The West End train didn't pass North Acton between 13:00 and 13:45, when i headed across to Woodford, where i did manage to catch the East End one, photos towards the end of here: www.wavygravy.fotopic.net/c1918606.htmlOf note was that it arrived at Woodford from the North about 15:05, and they departed back North. The timings i have had it running down to Leytonstone and back North from there at that time. I also saw my first LUL battery locos (other than one that was at Old Oak Common open day back in the early 90s, but didn't note the number!) which were handily placed on the closed H&C/District lines at Mile End.
