i have read today that the first S stock is being launched into service on monday in front of the media (providing nothing goes wrong of course)
i have been told that the first trip is from Wembley park at 10:31 to Watford ( Arr 11:02) then the unit will leave Watford at 11:08 to Wembley park then empty to the depot before retunring to service at around 12:50 with another run to Watford and back, I have been told that there is going to be trip around 17:00 as well.
Also i have been warned the unit could appear in service this saturday as well

Neither are correct factually to the info we are aware of.
All that you read isn't always the truth.
I'd be interested to see the source of both (discounting Wiki as reliable)

The forum staff are indeed privy to information from an official source (neither of which will be revealed given the agreement of trust involved), and it certainly seems the proverbial grapevine has gone into top gear on this one.
Officially S8's go into service in September.
It is very much the intention of all involved that the first one (actually train 3) will be in service well before then, but as with anything of this nature, there can be no guarantees until the train actually leaves the depot and opens it's doors at the platform.....

So given my limited luck in seeing the new trains on the Victoria, what are the odds of getting to ride this one in my one off journey between Finchley Road and North Harrow this afternoon? That would be such luck if it was.

According to the TfL press release, for now the new train will only be operating between Wembley Park and Watford. That's no good for me. Nitpick time! That's not true. The District line doesn't serve any part the original Paddington to Farringdon route. It runs between Paddington and Edgware Road, but that's between Paddington Praed Street side. The original Metropolitan Railway line went from Paddington Bishop's Road side. |

Where does the route from Praed Street join up with the original? I guess you're probably right. I had it in my mind that the sections branches off as it leaves Edgware Road.

Are there any known time this new train can be seen today or tomorrow? I've noticed a rather strange bit in that image - I thought that broad gauge rails were only present on the original section, but here you can see them also extending to the new branch. |

Are there any known time this new train can be seen today or tomorrow? At the moment you'll just have to take your chances. Paths are booked every day but they may not necessarily be used every day. Testing is still taking place and so any one of the 3 S stocks in London may be used - the first two are pre-production trains and cannot operate in passenger service (they will be going back to the manufacturer some time in the future to be modified into production versions). |

I'm open to correction, but AIUI the pre-production versions are not fully fitted out for passenger service - they carry various equipment for testing purposes which means it just isn't suitable to have passengers on board too. The production trains are fully fitted out for passenger service and are essentially good to go once delivered. |

From earlier discussions on the subject of the pre-production trains, one of the key things they lack from a passenger perspective is seats. And we all know how important they are to Amersham Man ;D

What is going to be the rate of delivery? (trains per month/week) I suspect this belongs to another thread, but if you remove the "on monday" part of the topic title I think it suits quite well  |

The first instance I get to have an almost empty S-Stock train (havent been on one yet). I will run from one end all the way to the other and back. I dont know why but I really feel like doing it. So much freedom. Im picturing the train now and I feel I can breath will all that space.
Who was lucky enough to drive the first passenger carrying train? Is he on this forum? Id like to know how it felt.
Only thing I miss of the A stock is being able to sit nice and cosy in the forward facing seats at the back of a car with one of my girlfriends on a fast to Amersham. Now I will just have to lean on her side by side.
Will these trains be exactly the same as the stock for the district and circle line.

Will these trains be exactly the same as the stock for the district and circle line. The Met trains will have 8 carriages, while Circle, District and Hammersmith and City will have 7. I also believe there will be no transverse on the 7 carriage trains (the Metropolitan trains have this on one side of the train, atleast in some parts if I remember correctly). |

I think some pictures linked to in the other thread shows the Met carriages will have some transverse seating, and they mentioned that this was a Met Line only feature.
Am I the only one here who dislikes transverse seating?
Standing space is reduced and when sitting, you have to stare at the person opposite you whilst constantly fighting with them for legroom. If all the seats faced one direction, I wouldn't mind so much.

So how does the service information, visual and audio, work? Do they just say "semi-fast" and presume passengers understand what that means?

The CIS announces the current station and interchanges, next station, stopping pattern and destination. The car line maps also illustrate the different possible stopping patterns just like on A Stock. |
