Hey! Was on my way to Stanmore from Leyton. My usual route is Central to Liverpool Street, Met to Wembley Park, Then, Joob to Stanmore. Was looking at my phone when I was approaching Wembley Park Platform 2 going North, and I randomly looked down at the sidings South of wembley park (the ones that go a little below ground level) And I see the S Stock. I got off the train at Wembley Park to interchange and saw that the Dot Matrix said NOT IN SERVICE 1 MIN Keeerrching! There where a lot of people in the cab! looked like a lot of LUL Officials! Train went through a low speed so I got a good look! Also managed to snap this photo. Excuse the quality, had seconds to get my iPhone out to take it hence why its grainy.

The train completed 3 return trips between Neasden Depot and Watford throughout today, all as far as I know, without any hitches at all. There were 5 "booked" return trips - not known why the final 2 were not used - the reasons could be numerous. Having said that, some of the trips were booked as "in passenger service" for part of their journeys - which obviously would not be happening either.
I only got to see it via the CCTV. To those who saw it "in the flesh" one thing that struck me was that it didn't appear to have headlights on. Are they very dim / adjusted to daylight running (in amfmechanic's picture they seem to be small dots of light in the centre of the headlight itself.)

MetControl!
I was hoping someone would bring this up, It seems that they are Bi Directional LED's (im taking a guess) From a distance in the sunlight we had today I could clearly see the LED's but as the train was drawing closer I was thinking why are they off? But I think you are right on this one Met, I think they must adjust brightness based on ambient light.
MetControl, do you know test train op dennis? He will know, lucky b*gger has been driving it since it arrived at neasen!

I saw it at HOTH and Northwick Park today, got to admit its looks quite nice Although the train seemed to be running late, probably something to do with the Amersham Reversers at Wembley Park www.flickr.com/photos/juliang2006/4794002648/

The train was running late, although the people running it didn't have the decency to tell anyone in Service Control they had a problem with it in Neasden Depot and that it would be coming out 30+ late.

Nice (lucky?) shot there juliang. I don't know about you lc66, but I'm beginning to think about the financial possibilities of offering to get the front of both trains a little closer for the perfect photo. A little hold here, a little slower there ;D ;D

I also saw the Track Recording Train at Neasden after its transfer move from Ruislip Depot [so thats the 20th time I've seen the TRT this year, shocking indeed!]

Maybe its just extremely shy? After all the mocking it must have received from the A's it lives next to it probably has a few self esteem problems

Either that, or it's just getting in to the habbit of causing service affecting problems ;-) One of these days I'll actually manage to see it

Did anyone get a chance to hear the engine sounds? What does it compare to? I'm guessing it sounds something similar to the 1996/2009 stocks...the futuristic sound.

Maybe the Wembley excursion was the new train being scared of the big city and making a break for 'home'! ;D

There is a video here on Youtube Off-topic so I'll be brief, why does the A Stock in this vid have it's headlights on at the rear? Error or intentional?

Nice video!
The A Stock on the southbound main heading south with its headlights on is probably a T/Ops error - i.e. he/she forgot to change them before he/she changed ends.

As it moves off it initially sounds like a 92ts and then it begins to sound like an 09ts. Crossbreed.
I'm guessing this is something to do with the longer gearbox ratio's or whatever you call it.

I know exactly what you mean, they sound totally different to the current rolling stock, but I just can't think of a descriptive word to use

The S stock uses IGBT inverters doesn't it? Then I can see why it sounds like an 09 stock.
The 92ts uses GTO thyristor control on DC motors so I don't see why it would sound similar at all.
