I think the service running on that weekend will likely be Poplar-Woolwich Arsenal.

I think the service running on that weekend will likely be Poplar-Woolwich Arsenal. Oh of course, that makes more sense. Although I'd like to see a Blackwall-East India shuttle, it certainly would be interesting. I can't see any way there could be a frequency of more than 4-5tph.

If, like most of the DLR, that stretch is bi-di signalled, you'd get a higher frequency with two parallel single car shuttles. There's no need for a driver to change ends, nor for anyone to be tipped out. The journey planner gives a travel time of 1 minute between the stations, and if we assume two minutes are required at each end then that's a return trip of 6 minutes, which would enable 10 tph on a single line, so 20 tph with two parallel ones.
Given that it only takes 6 minutes* to walk between the two, finding enough passengers for even 10tph would be the bigger challenge! * Journey planner default, which I consistently walk faster than.

Duty roster has now been issued running to the 21st August, with no provision for Stratford International opening, so don't expect it to be open until at least September.

Big news was made of the fact that the Olympic transport legacy was to kick in so early. I know that even if it does open in September it'll be early for its main purpose, but its been so long in the making. Very dissapointing to hear that it wont open for a long while yet.

Westfield shopping centre at Stratford is due to open in mid-September (the 13th, I believe). Maybe that will be a good excuse to open the line.

Difficult to see how this is consistent with the "opening summer 2011" or (last week) "open to the public next month" both of which have been widely published

Difficult to see how this is consistent with the "opening summer 2011" I dunno - BBC2 is running a TV series right now called Spring Watch, in June, so I guess Summer could probably run into September by that reckoning.

BBC2 is running a TV series right now called Spring Watch, in June, Thats because it's Spring! Well it is if you still go by Solstices and Equinoxes as the start of Seasons. Using old money that would be June 21 - September 21 as Summer Then again the MetOffice say Summer data begun a week ago at the start of June!! And BST the time began back in March. Trying to date the beginning of a season is pure folly!

Quoting 'seasons' in announcements about things that are intended to happen can be very useful, though! Especially with the addition of the words 'early' or 'late'. Can give a great deal of .... 'flexibility' .... ! ;D

Officially the first day of Spring is 21st March, Summer 21st June, Autumn 21st September and Winter 21st December. It depends on if you are using the astronomical definition or the meteorologic definition. Astronomically they start on the 21st March, 21st June, 23rd September and 21st December. Meteoroloigcally they start on the 1st March, June, September and December. Anyway, back on topic the last thing I read from the DLR was that they were confident of a June/July opening. But this was in March.

They did seem to think that a July opening was practically guaranteed, given the recent Boris appearance.
And I personally think that most people in our part of the world consider Spring = March/April/May Summer = June/July/August Autumn = September/October/November Winter = uggggghhhh.
Well, I'm most people. The rest suck. (That's of course the problem with democracy - most people don't know what's good for them!)

I wonder if the sticking point is the low level platforms at Canning Town? I notice the slabs are being lifted again, for what must be the third time.

Do feel free to elaborate. What may seem like naivety on my part is down to the lack of information that anyone else has managed to glean as to why the opening keeps getting put back 3 months at a time every 3 months. Perhaps you know what they're digging for under Canning Town platforms. Maybe it was discovered that the works at Canning Town were disturbing the wildlife ecology of Bow Creek and they're having to construct a replacement badget sett or something?!?!?! Whatever the reason, I'm sure many folks on here would love to know. And I think what with so many test trains running and with Boris on board, the rumour about it being cable thefts seems to have been dismissed by most if not all. Unless I've missed something (or corrective posts are only being sent by PM to selected individuals) that particular theory was never proven or confirmed by anyone who actually *knew*.

And, just to think... only a few years ago, there would have been 313's there!
Nice pics

12 x 2 car trains running today between CAT and STI. Lord, that's an unfortunate abbreviation for Stratford. Hope that it is definitely open in time for the Westfield opening.

12 x 2 car trains running today between CAT and STI. Yes i saw many trains running today, backing up into West Ham. At West Ham the DLR platforms had the departure screens on and showing the wait for the next train, trains were stopping opening the doors and the member of staff doing the usual procedure before departing

12 x 2 car trains running today between CAT and STI. Moderator Comment
In the interests of clarity, please try to avoid the use of abbreviations for stations. Not everyone knows that CAT means Canning Town or that STI means Stratford International.
Many thanks!

So were they doing an "everyday running" test today?

From what I saw in passing and the descriptions on this thread, it would seem likely to be staff training/familiarisation taking place today.
