While waiting a few days ago at Cutty Sark station I noticed the DLR map posted on the platform showed the new Stratford line, saying "opening Autumn 2010". Now either I haven't been paying enough attention or this public declaration of when it is opening, on the official DLR map, has passed me by. It's geting very cold outside for "Autumn". TfL always said Autumn. The ATOC London Connections maybe said Summer. Technically, they've got until December 21st before the end of Autumn. When this thing does open, can we get rid of the damn step-free access symbols on the Tube Map? I've seen a version of it with the extension on the S8 and the map is getting to look ridiculous with all these blue blobs.

I still find it strange that people are getting so wound up about the non-opening of a raliway that really doesn't really affect anybody and won't for some time to come. Does anybody actually want to go to Stratford International yet? The odd one or two that want a Javelin perhaps although it's not unreasonable to expect them to go to St. Pancras for the time being.

I thought there were quite a few people using the Intl station, and have to bus it to the main station. I see yesterday the TBTC loop is now being laid, so must be still a couple of months away before that is all finished and tested. I reckon it will be March 2011 when it opens.

There is also more to the railway than simply Stratford (regional) to Stratford International. There are the intermediate stations between Stratford and Canning Town that the local communities will be waiting for. Direct trains from the Beckton branch to Stratford will be a great benefit to the hundreds of UEL staff and students that commute between the Docklands and Straford campuses. Relieving pressure on Canning Town station, the Jubilee Line and probably also the 262 bus as well. I'm sure the direct trains from the Woolwich Arsenal branch to Stratford will be equally welcomed.

I think Chris has noted that there has been too much emphasis on the line past Stratford; in fact, so biased has the focus been that I neglected to mention the line south of Stratford whilst attempting to defend the topic! ;D

I still find it strange that people are getting so wound up about the non-opening of a raliway that really doesn't really affect anybody. We think it will affect people, for there is a complete silence on how things at Canning Town will be organised once it opens, and the present convenient and well-designed interchange to/from the DLR will be replaced by trains to Beckton and to Woolwich leaving for those points from two widely-separated platforms. We have no idea whether they will operate alternately, which will leave some very wide gaps from either platform at quiet times, or whether the services on each route will be doubled at these quiet times (most unlikely). Having watched, from the current DLR platform at Canning Town over the last year or so, the new platform which was only apparently rebuilt about 10 years ago for the previous North Woolwich railway route being demolished and then rebuilt, in such a longwinded and extravagant manner, and in pretty much the same style as before, we find it difficult to believe that there is any realistic grip on how things will operate.

with this bit of the DLR, is the jubilee from Canning town->Stratford really needed? What about North greenwich->thamesmead is built, and the fleet line is built (charing cross->ludgate circus->fenchurch street) and extend it to stratford using the existing platforms. At the same time, and extention of the DLR from woolwich to North Greenwich could do if the thamesmead branch doesn't stop near Woolwich.

It's 'early 2011' - from the Commissioner's Report to the 4th November TfL Board meeting (PDF, page 8): 4.2 Docklands Light Railway (DLR)
The Stratford International extension will now be opening in early 2011 once construction and testing of the line is complete. Test trains are scheduled to start running on the extension in November. The extension will be delivered well in advance of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and in time for the new Westfield Shopping Centre opening in Stratford later in 2011.So the note on the DLR route map mentioned above is correct. Has anyone seen any test trains running on the line yet?

[...] The Jubilee from Stratford into Canary Wharf is absolutely heaving - bear in mind all the commuters who change from the Great Eastern lines (NXEA) at Stratford and also those from the LTS (c2c) at West Ham - so yes, it's really needed and will continue to be so! (Indeed the overdue signalling upgrade on the Jubbly is thoroughly needed in order to pump more trains through the line.) The new DLR extension could not possibly substitute for the Jubilee between Stratford and Canning Town.

Are there any plans online to see where it'll be linked to. Looks like DLR, so I imagine going from Stratford to West Ham, via a couple of stops along Manor Road, but then I'm not sure where it'd end up. Stratford-Canning Town is already on the Jubilee Line so seems pointless to double up...

Another train appeared in Canning Town on the "new" tracks this morning, but there is still a fence across the track where the new route joins the Woolwich Arsenal route.
Does anyone have a definite date when this route will open other than "Early 2011"?

There isn't a DLR unit numbered 319. The numbering is: B90 stock: 22 - 44 B92 stock: 45 - 91 B2K stock: 92 - 99, 01 - 16 B2007 stock (the new units with black ends): 101 - 155

Which was running all the time the old north London Line was running. Dont forget that one of the Biggest shopping centers will open at Stratford plus the thousands of new homes and the jobs that go with it. Ps. 319 must be 119 as that is now at Canning Town
