Just a quick post to ask whether there are any engineering works to prevent us mere mortals getting to Acton for the open weekend this year? Thanks.

Piccadilly Line is OK.
District has engineering work Earl's Court to Whitechapel with no Circle line.

That isn't too bad, one year there was no services on either line east of Acton Town.

Tell me more......... I may need a drink to give me some courage to face the Wife after spending the housekeeping at the Radley Models stand! It is the Acton 'spoons. Nice roomy pub; though not quite as grand as Chiltern Court the Met. Bar. Doubtless, there will be more details nearer the time.

That isn't too bad, one year there was no services on either line east of Acton Town. That was last year. From Liverpool Street, I had to get the Central to Ealing Broadway, then the District.

Well I'm looking forward to it! I bought a CO/CP stock train last year and I'm hoping to have it finished this year! Also looking forward to a few jars too!

Piccadilly Line is OK. District has engineering work Earl's Court to Whitechapel with no Circle line. Is this work EVER going to end? Had the usual farce yesterday. Tipped out at Whitechapel WB, then no information as to whether the next WB H&C would depart from platform 1 or platform 3. Luckilly I spied the starter off on platform 1 and was able to sprint over the bridge and jump on board just as the doors closed. Not so fortunate for other passengers who stood aimlessly on platform 3 watching the train depart. Excellent pro-activity between SAs and the Sig/Op (not), but maybe they've yet to attend "Valuing Time"? Frankly with the former interchange route via the ELL plaforms closed, the narrow footbridge, and the staff-only stairs at the west end of the DR platforms long since gated off, I'm suprised a 'risk assessment' hasn't banned the planned reversal of all WB DR trains here during engineering work, given the congestion created. I see the explanatory poster associated with the shutdown makes reference to "slightly reduced" services on the rest of the District Line, which is putting it mildly!

That was last year. From Liverpool Street, I had to get the Central to Ealing Broadway, then the District. I'm sure it happened a few years ago as well, as I didn't go there last year.

I expect that, if I am around, I will be protecting the 38 stock from little feet for most of the day. Remember to go to the small objects store if we have enough staff to run tours of it. It contains many of our most fascinating objects, but we can't allow open access as the definition of small is related to the ability of one person to make off with it (likewise large is defined as needing to stick an item in the calendar a few weeks ahead if you need to move it)

As I have never been to Acton would I be correct in assuming that the event will be signposted from Acton Town. I also presume that the 'Red Lion & Pineapple' is within staggering distance too!

Yeah; the Depot is quite easy to find - there will probably be a recognised 'meet point' for forum members organised beforehand; ISTR that the RLAP is about 10 (15 tops) min plod from the Depot.
I think it took a fair bit longer to plod/stagger back!

When chasing a forum member who suddenly ups and leaves the pub without warning to see if they are alright, the pub to the station can be done in ~5 minutes. I wouldn't recommend it though!
I'll do my best to get there, but location and lack of job mean I can't commit unfortunately.

At least the roof is watertight. It may have sounded like there was a marching band up there last time I was working on the Q Stock, but we didn't get wet until it was time to put some rubbish into the skip.

Don't forget to visit the Acton Minature Railway. Any people out there who are likely to be assisting in its running that weekend? I'll be running the railway, probably alternatiing between driving my trusty 38TS and doing some signalling.

Does anyone know which layouts and traders will be at the show and can I safely assume that the 'Red Lion & Pineapple' does Guinness? ;D

The RLAP is a Wetherpsoons house, so Guiness should be available.

The depot is easy to spot from Acton Town station - it is literally just over the road.
