District line Part Closure 17th-18th June
On the weekend of the 17th-18th of June majority of the District lines western arteries will close from South Ken to Richmond/Acton Town aswell as Edgware Rd to Wimbledon and the Olympia branch. Some Piccadilly line services will run on the slow lines to serve intermediate stations between Acton Town and Hammersmith echoing the Christmas closures of 2013. One difference this time however is that the Piccadilly won't run into Ealing Bdwy which will be served by an isolated District line shuttle to/from Acton Town. Clearly the scale of this closure has negated the use of other reversing points such as High St Ken, West Ken or Parsons Green etc. Does anyone know what kind of work will be undertaken during this closure? Many thanks, Martin No shuttle between Acton - Ealing Broadway I believe as it would impact the Picc services running through Acton because of the various shunts needed

These idiots must be completely out of touch with reality. I couldn't count the number of times I've seen trains operated with the driver's door open. It beggars belief that no one from the busybody with the camera, through the ninny that wrote the piece. to the editor that allowed it to deface his publication, was aware of the fact that it is quite a common occurrence in hot weather. I happened to be on the tube last week and therefore saw the Standard article while on the train. I saw a few words and the obvious use of a "social media" / "smartphone camera" type photo and thought it would be a load of hyped sensationalist nonsense. I sincerely hope no one at LU has taken this seriously or attempted any action against the driver. These sorts of "oh look how shocking" uninformed snapshots and rubbish remarks on social media are an absolute curse and the TV media & newspapers have people trawling the web with search routines etc all day, every day with the result that people get quoted and hounded and have their privacy breached. Virtually nothing is private or away from potential surveillance or scrutiny these days. Must make life very difficult for people working in public areas or with the public - constant risk of the slightest thing being recorded / snapped and then misinterpreted. And well done to "Mr Shrugged" for a well rounded, factual and astute response. I was talking to a Central driver on my wy home the other night and the driver had a CAP (company action plan) because of this incident I think that mountains out of molehills comes to mind myself as with the D stocks I almost always had offside door open and if it was that hot or humid I would have the nearside open as well

From 27/3 designated D stock workings are T125 and 126 from Ealing Common and T101 and 102 from Upminster however these could be operated by S depending on availability

I was wondering the other day do Lul drivers on the lines that cross NR infrastructure need a special licence, different from say a Licence of a driver that doesn't cross NR? No

The freedom pass was not introduced in 1973. When I joined the underground in 1967 pensioners got nothing. It was something like this as each election new promises were made When it started it was only for buses 9.30am - 4pm Then the hours were extended 9.30am - midnight The 20p underground concession was brought in. The underground was added but not BR except on parallel routes ie Upminster-Fenchurch Street, Stratford -Liverpool Street DLR must have been added next Time extended to all day, cannot remember if it was at the same time or buses first. BR added within GLC area with some extentions outside such as Dartford Tramlink must have been added when it opened. Pensioners still called it a bus pass long after it changed it's name to Freedom pass which must have been in 80's or even 90's I am sure somebody can correct me or even add the dates. The original OAP travel permit was not valid in peaks so it started at 9.30 valid until 15.59 then valid from 1900 until midnight then as the elections approached extended validity or modes of transport were added

7115 was indeed part of the last unrefurbished D stock back in 2008. The late great District Dave was driving in 7115 as it went into Ealing Common depot. Also, with the recent withdrawals and chatter on the internet, there are suggestions that the D's will be gone by the end of Feb? Is there any truth in this? New timetable (WTT149) in May states ALL trains formed of S7

There is also another S Stock which seems to have something loose under the solebar, as it makes a dragging sound when it pulls away. I've seen it on a few occasions but haven't been able to note the number. The noise is quite distinct, and very different to the whine of the motors or the scraping sound of the shoegear. Very strange It may be the lube sticks that are fitted to the S stocks to help ease the wearing of the rails they are designed to move in there holders

The blue moquette was also used on the early DMS and SMS buses And if I'm not mistaken, the Leyland Nationals. It was also the original moquette on the C and 1972 Mk II stock. This appears to be the standard LT moquette from 1970 till around 1977 I know the original D stock Moquette was also used on all the modern opo buses T M LS at the time as well

The blue moquette was the original 1973 stock version, which it retained until refurbishment. The Central line 1962 stock had a greyish moquette. The 1959 stock on the Northern had a blue moquette for a number of years. The blue moquette was also used on the early DMS and SMS buses
