I always think the automated platform announcements sound rather robotic. My housemate thinks that some stations (Kings X in particular) use a Text-to-Speech synthesizer to do the announcements, so it is a robotic announcement to one extent. The only reason he thinks this is because it sounds like the one he uses for his Dyslexia

Does anyone have a scan / PDF / something of a tube map from October 2005 that they could provide, if possible?
I realised yesterday that it was when I first visited London so want to have a look at it.
Thanks in advance...
Colin

I'm told that somebody has been tasked to take photos of all Met stations with regards to posters, location of posters etc to assist with the old chesnut "there was no information displayed/ available" to make sure that information available is being displayed/ used. Of course, it depends where you are displaying the information too... displaying it on the 'bridges' at Wembley doesn't help someone that's changing on the platform for example.

Are you sure this is correct. I wouldn't have thought it was possible for a southbound train from Finchley Road to not stop at Baker Street as in pass right through. Positive. From the TFL service update:

Are there any 'standards' for the information given out at stations? At the moment, with the met timetable being 'strange' for 3 weeks, the information seems to be a bit inconsistent, which isn't good for the users of the service...
Firstly, the good bit: Hillingdon and Ickenham have a poster telling you when the trains are - up until 10AM - with the reduced Uxbridge service - very useful information.
The not so good bits:
At Wembley Park this morning the next train display said:
Except, they don't as Aldgate services are not stopping at Baker Street.
It's also highly amusing to be standing at Northwick Park or Preston Road, on a Watford service with an announcement playing that 'Between the hours of X and Y, Watford trains do not stop at this station.' when it's between X and Y and they are obviously stopping...
Are the messages broadcast at stations / displayed on the next train display controlled by the stations themselves?

Quick picture of some of the grafiti'd trains... taken from a blackberry as I shot past on a Jubilee Line this evening. Pic removed by staff. As you see from our rules, we don't allow pics of graffitied trains since it only encourages others.
Be interested to know what the plan is, in terms of cleaning them... get them back in to service and clean when the service is suspended at the weekends?

There seems to be a collection of trains in Wembley Park sidings that seem to have had a new paint job, I'm assuming that was the C/D stock that was attacked on Friday night?

Time for a food ban methinks. Why not? Other Metros have done it........... The alcohol ban can not be enforced, so I can't imagine a food ban is going to make much different. I do agree with the previous comment about the seats needing deep cleaned or recovered though!

One (return) journey? Middle of weekday? Track has to be recorded sometime when it's light. That's fair enough, it just seems a bit of a strange time to do it to me... I don't know how often the shuttles run, or how much notice was given but at least there was a replacement bus service to Amersham.

Yeah because the track recorder is running Surely they should be able to do that without cancelling passenger services? I know it's only the small shuttle to Chesham, but still...

I like the seating on the A stock, but also think longitudinal seating like other lines would be so much more useful!

S stock comes via Princes Risborough and Aylesbury. How do they come in via Princes Risborough and Aylesbury? I assume they go from PR to Aylesbury then down the line to Amersham as I wouldn't have thought there was a way from the Aylesbury - PR - Marylebone line for them to Neasden.

Cool thanks Colin Probably shouldn't ask this here but... Does the bit about 72ts on the Bakerloo apply to Central Line trains too?

Was on a met line train from HOTH to Uxbridge last night, which was being delayed due to a signal failure at Eastcote (not the best night to be stuck - VERY warm!).
Fair play to the driver who did a most excellent job of keeping us informed of what was going on (can't remember the train or car number or I'd have written to TFL complimenting him!).
Anyway, to the point of the question....
On being ready to depart Eastcote, the driver said we were going to do a "routine procedure on departure. There may be a slight jolt, and then a slow running train." We promptly set off, when about 10 yards and then there was a jolt. A minute or so later, on we went.
I presume this was the driver passing a red signal with authorization and the trip cock (?) cutting in to stop the train?

However, I dread the day when such information is stored and replayed following disruption and people begin to criticise the way in which we have handled the service. Our own management do that already. They are experts in hindsight - taking maybe only 2 weeks to come up with an alternative to the decision I had to make within 30 seconds on the day. To use it to criticise, I don't agree with... but from a management perspective, storing the data and being able to replay it back is a good thing... It enables you to review it, discuss it with colleagues and in new and interesting issues, possibly develop plans if it happens again, surely? It's when I think of drawbacks such as this that I then wonder if we're revealing a little too much. But then, the world is changing... Your (job, not personally) decisions are already publicly facing (de-training that train at harrow, converting that H&C to a circle etc.) then this is just another view of it? People are going to criticise anyway?

As an additional question then, if they are all linked... does that mean that theoretically a deep level train (say the Picadilly line stock) could run on any part of the network?

When you spend a billion pounds on something you half expect it to work as intended 100% of the time... Then you are expecting miracles; even the simplest thing can go wrong on a £1000 system or a £1bn system... Yea well I've taken my VW back many times for fixes to be done under warranty. That's not the point. Errr, how is that different? You've bought something new, and you've had to take it back to get if fixed under warranty... which is potentially the same with the signals?

I'm sure the different codes (I assume S means train no., and D is destination number) are explained somewhere, but I have problems finding it. It's linked on data.london.gov.uk/apibeta as the Trackernet User Guide

Saw this on twitter from @anniemole earlier but hadn't seen it mentioned here... Telegraph Article: www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/news/7830412/London-transport-data-opened-to-app-developers.htmlYou can now find all sorts of useful information and data about London Transport from the site linked in the article; including some stuff which appears to come from TrackerNet (meaning application developers can develop better departure boards than TFLs hopefully!) and information on SPADs that have happened this year. I look forward to finding a use for it...

I do have to agree that the information being fed out to the train I was on this morning were also really useful... but the previous time I ended up delayed on the Met line, the announcements were also first class and informative.

I do often wonder the logic of standing at the platform entrance/ exit, blocking the entrance/ exit for others and then forcing your way onto a packed carriage - or perhaps even having to wait for the next train - when there is plenty of space normally located at the front/ rear of the train. Convenience? Commuters like to be able to get on to and off the train as near their exit at the destination station as possible... I know I do but will at least stand at the side of the doors to let people off first!

Unlike the Met at Wembley Park about 6PM Uxbridge bound - the doors are often starting to shut before the passengers who are trying to get out have managed too, and those trying to get on are left on the platform. Although, that could be because we're following another piece of LU staff advice.... 'Please let passengers off the train before boarding'

So my question (I don't do complaints) is just why has this work been done in the first place, and if the facilities are not going to be used, is this an overprovision? Perhaps, before they can use them they need to be: 1) Installed fully 2) Tested fully 3) Cleared for use 4) Timetabled in to use / used for weekend engineering works

The Met service can only run Harrow to Northwood and Harrow to Uxbridge. Thought it was running Harrow - Amersham / Chesham, just not to Watford?

Is there really a service running on Monday form Harrow on the Hill to Northwood? From looking at the engineering works email, there appears to be but this seems slightly strange to me that there'd be trains running for that short space of track...
