Out of curiosity is there any reason why it's called MPU rather than the more traditional Pilot Motor (or even locomotive)?

Is the running of the 38 planned to be a regular (if not frequent) occurrence? I wanted to go on this trip but my brother is getting married that weekend and the selfish sod wouldn't postpone it. They would not spend 2+ years overhauling it to mainline condition, only to keep it locked away. The unit has been little used, relatively speaking, since it was preserved. Outings have always been fairly rare. Has the current overhaul been done to a higher standard than the previous ones in preservation?

Think the BR(S) green is highly appropriate. Surely not for LUL where this stock will (I hope) return after the Swanage gig.

Time for a good old-fashioned livery debate. I hope the Swanage job doesn't mean they paint it in an 'authentic' BR livery. I always liked the Metropolitan maroon, which looked just right with Sarah etc (hated the fake teak vinyl).

What work is needed on the loco, and will it be done by the time the 4TC returns? Or is it the new works shunter?

And the 1938 stock tour of the Jubilee Line visited the closed station not so long ago.

With more than 48 hours since the last move either everyone like myself had a long hard weekend of drinking. Or, as a result of Chris's last move (a Stovold classic) followed by a points failure, everyone is in Nidd. Except me. Therefore:
Mornington Crescent.
As the winner of this game it falls upon me to quote Nigel Mansell's immortal line which he used to say at the end of every single Grand Prix (including the ones where he started in Pole and led all the way) "It was a tough race"

With that (implied or actual) time shift the old standard-stock 'cut & shut' manoeuvre (see extended-appendix L11) also comes into play. So I can move directly to: Kings Cross

I believe that the largest kindle has 3GB of memory so would be unable to accommodate the brief guide, even without appendices. Just needed a few extra Kindles. Anyway I've finished reading it now. There’s not nearly as much of it as people imagine. Some of it’s pretty funny, though. Most of the good bits are about frogs, believe it or not. Which therefore allows me to move again. Queen's Park

miff, we may need a stewards inquiry on this one mate as Cockfosters and High Barnet have already been played subsequent to my Woodford suggestion. You said a statutory move. And you're a Global Mod. What could I do? I will download, from Kindle, a copy of the 45th Edition Brief Guide to the Rules with Extended Appended & Amended Addendum (Abridged)* and study it very carefully. *Edited

On the contrary, you're forgetting Hardwick's Response miff, which as the rest of us know, allows a statutory move to Woodford. But in this case Woodford would leave him in a Wade-Butcher Zone, which really isn't that much better... My first job was Butcher's Boy (though he was called Mick, not Wade), so I'll take my chances. Woodford.

Due to Heisenberg's uncertainty principle I believe that last move is invalid during (without bringing up the politics) the interval between referendum and final Brexit and it could even put you into a stasis of Reno's Spiral for a very long time.
May I boldly suggest - Tottenham Court Road? Jessop's loop doesn't apply since there is a Jessops just outside, 102 New Oxford St.

Since the '38 stock has just been overhauled and the 4TC now receiving attention there is surely cause for optimism. 45029 might be finished one day (at Eastleigh since about 2010 I believe); Cravens are still waiting in the wings. And there is the Q-Stock, one day.

Both 45029 and the 4TC looked very unfinished a month ago on Carl Watson's Eastleigh photos page. Swanage have another 4TC set, which was formerly owned by LUL.

The filing history seems to show a company regulatory issue which has been resolved.
No idea whether there is a change in ownership although with any railway or business owned by one person, there will always need to be a succession plan sooner or later.

Another missed opportunity by the Mayor? Given the extant concerns about overcrowding on the BHR platforms, I was rather surprised to read the following Press Release on 2 March Mayor Unlocks BlackHorse Road land for HousingGiven someone is going to make a shed load of money out of this decision, I am astonished that the Mayor (or at least someone at TFL) did not press for some sort of planning gain contribution to widen the platforms at Blackhorse Road Station? 350 extra homes is probably going to significantly increase patronage at BHR, so why on earth did not the Mayor also demand the developers a significant contribution to upgrading this busy Overground station? Sadly I rather doubt the Local Government Ombudsman will take any interest in this sort of weird decision now their days are numbered. Regardless of any planning gain contributions TfL own the car park site and they will make a shed load of money from this redevelopment. It is then up to the Mayor to decide what to spend it on.

Yes but ... The 1960 stock cars themselves (all DM) were delivered unpainted and stayed that way until four of them (2 units, including trailers) were painted red in 1990. Two DMs also became part of the Track Recording Train (with a 1973 stock trailer) and were painted in a special livery, since modified to something more corporate. The original trailers were pre-'38 standard stock (red) and were repainted silver to 'match' the unpainted DMs. It was a poor match. In the late 70s/early 80s these worn out trailers were replaced with 1938 stick trailers repainted in a 'modified silver' (aka white) in another attempt to match the unpainted DMs. Perhaps they should have painted the DMs white at that time to match the trailers

Two 1960 stock trains, the ones used on the Ongar branch, were painted red by LUL during their final few years of service. CHT preserved one of them.

If it has a single red or white roundel, the card can go on eBay for at least double digits if there is demand. I don't know why it does, but I have the latter. Never knew that - I have a red one! Just looked on ebay - one sold recently for £51, and another is currently on 'buy it now' for £95, though I bet it won't sell at that price.

Sorry to bump this thread folks. I was just wondering if anyone had any idea what was happening to the last 3 sets left on LU metals? Have their fates been sealed now, or is there any active movement wither within or outside of the company to put one aside for preservation? Are all 3 sets in working order? I'm aware one is a RAT but have the other two been used at all or were they just retained for spares/backup purposes?

Yes, coal trains stopped by the end of the 60s I think but the coal merchant was still there for years afterwards. The goods shed was demolished in the 1980s, about the same time as the Ongar signal box and Epping water tower, but the yard remained derelict into this century.
The coal office and weighbridge hut are still there, looking a bit out of place at the entrance to one of the developments.

Quite a few shots of the yellow platform bench, with the GER initials cast into the supports, where I remember sitting on quite a few occasions waiting for a train. I wonder where that bench is now.

The pavements are a bit narrow at the moment and partly blocked with temporary barriers, due to structural defects, but the bridge is going to be widened and strengthened so that decent width footways and cycle lanes can be provided. A bike shed for the station is now being built in Argall Way. I don't know if they're relocating any bus stops but I suppose they might, there is so much changing on the whole length of Lea Bridge Road. But I guess there would still not be enough width on the bridge for a station plaza as well - the last thing you would want is crowds of people (and there may be crowds eventually) spilling out of a station gate on the bridge straight onto the A104. The Argall Way/Orient Way junction layout will also be simplified, converted from its present unusual layout into a more conventional crossroads.
