Wouldn't it have been better to devote any resources into sorting out Met to Watford Junction once and for all before faffing about with Ricky to Watford Met.

This popped up on my Facebook feed. Was it accurate? Just curious.
" “‼️IMPORTANT POST FOR MONDAY 17th OCTOBER 2022‼️ Please all be advised that there is no staff for the night shift for Rickmansworth signal cabin tonight (Sunday night 2300 until 0700). After a LOT of scrambling, management have been unable to get hold of anyone to work that cabin tonight. So it will be unstaffed until the early shift are able to get to work at 0700 Monday morning. The result of this is that there will be no service between Amersham, Chesham, and Watford to Northwood from start of traffic until AT LEAST 0745 - 0800. I have asked about taxis, but they simply will not be able to source the amount of taxis needed for the amount of people who need to travel. The time of night this was discovered, management are unable to source replacement buses either due to it being too late in the evening.”

Totally irrelevant, but in airline talk OSI means other service information, and can be used on a passenger's reservation to indicate extra info. OSI 1CHD would indicate one of the passengers is a child. That was how it worked twenty or so years ago, anyway.

Not maroon or red. Either varnished teak, or more likely that faded mid-brown colour used in LT days.

I loved the design of the F stock trains, so distinctive. I used to live at Wembley Park, and from what I can remember the F stock was invariably used on the Uxbridge trains. Were they ever used on the Watford branch?

I'd prefer windows, but I wonder why they don't have them in most lifts.

Indeed. In the mid sixties I worked for an airline in London's West End. I had to take the company mail to be sent to our European HQ to the West London Air Terminal. There I would put it on one of the airport coaches, and nip upstairs to our check-in desk to send a telex to our Heathrow office to tell them the Airline and Destination on the front of the coach. They would then meet the coach, collect the company logo'ed suitcase with the mail inside for onward transmission on one of our flights. I would then collect the suitcase with the incoming mail, which had been retrieved by the Air Terminal clerk from an earlier coach, and wend my way back to Gloucester Road Station, board the lift to the Platform and travel back to Oxford Circus, changing at Piccadilly. One of my colleagues once left the suitcase full of mail on the train, which caused no end of problems, especially for him.

Can't believe it's 10 years. Not too keen on S8. Might not be the fault of the stock, it's just that travelling from Amersham/Chalfont on an all stations is slow and tedious. I'd prefer a fast A60 to a slow S8 any day. But really, I'd prefer a nice brown slam-door T stock and the joy of running up the platform to find an "empty". Or a Sarah and the Dreadnoughts.

I like Bill Simpson's History of the Metropolitan Railway Vol.1-3, and also the splendid selection of Met. Line books by the late Clive Foxell. I also very much enjoyed the Hammersmith & City Line 150 years by the late Mike Horne. That last book had been sitting around for ages before I got round to reading it and I found it really interesting and well researched and written. As you would expect.
Not sure if the original question related only to lines underground, or the whole LT system. Still as one who regularly passes Chalfont & Latimer station and chuckles to see a large UNDERGROUND roundel where the line crosses on a bridge up above, I suppose Underground can mean whatever one wants it to mean.

So that's Amersham, Chalfont, and Uxbridge all sorted. Chesham and Watford need to up their game!

Noticed in passing that the Sugar Loaf Inn, Little Chalfont, near to Chalfont & Latimer Station has been renovated and renamed The Metropolitan. I will force myself to have a pint next time I'm passing, in case there is anything railway related in the decor. There is a Metro Lounge near Amersham station, so this seems to be a bit of a trend.
Incidentally, it amuses me to look at the roundels boldly proclaiming "Underground" Outside Chalfont & Latimer station, just by the bridge carrying the line high above the road. Small things ......

When I (and many others) explored the subway in 2009, when it was being used to house an art installation, there were the remains of old posters from when it was being used as a film or tv set. Wonder if they're still there.

I got mine in 2015, from a pile of unrefurbished ones at an open day at Acton depot. Sadly, nowhere suitable for it in the house, so after cleaning it up it now does duty as a "flower rack" The umbrella hook is in use.

According to a Rail Mag I've just read, the 4TC is going to be finished in maroon livery, and used for various railtours, including possibly London to Quainton Road. No idea how true that is!

Lovely description. And, veering a bit off topic, I know "red" trains occasionally went to Watford, but did the "Brown" ones ever go to Uxbridge? On purpose.

Used to travel quite often on the A stock. Sometimes I would end up in a car with a wheel flat, which was very noticeable. I'm wondering whether the driver would be aware of a flat if it was in one of the cars at the end of the train, or whether the banging noise is only apparent in the affected car.

The link from that site to the film is well worth having a look at - best to skip through the first part (about 2mins ) then you get some amazing footage of the engines and rolling stock in use. Never knew anything about this.

Chiltern Railways do too. "There is a music event at Wembley Stadium – Coldplay. An amended timetable will operate during the late afternoon and evening. In particular, the following changes will be made to late afternoon/evening peak services to allow us to provide extra capacity to Wembley as efficiently as possible, whilst ensuring minimal disruption to our regular passengers:"
