They can discuss it all they like, but unless they can find some money from somewhere then nothing is going to happen. Something like a Watford to Amersham or Chesham service wouldn't require major new infrastructure or driver training, but would be operationally convenient? Are paths available? Would it be value for money?

Wouldn't it have been better to devote any resources into sorting out Met to Watford Junction once and for all before faffing about with Ricky to Watford Met.

No. It is better to devote resources to debating nonsense in any election run up; even local councilors have vested interests in who is in parliament and (in this case even though outside London) who the next London mayor is.

Is there really that much demand for such a service?

Probably passenger demand would mean that a fleet of two car S Stock trains will suffice.
But if they had some TramTrains (as per Sheffield) then they could use these to extend the service to Watford Junction - via the alignment originally planned by the Metropolitan Railway and once in Watford as street trams for the rest of the journey.
Simon - looking forward to more cloud cuckoo land transport pre-election promises!

Originally (from 1925) there was a (regular) shuttle service from Watford (Met) to Rickmansworth, using one of the Met's double ended motor coaches, until 21 January 1934.

Before we end up in RIPAS territory I think the parameters would need to be established. The aforementioned 1925 service was able to use the former bay platform at Rickmansworth being a single car train. The current S stock train would either have to reverse in one of the platforms at Rickmansworth or carry on to Amersham - Chesham doesn’t have capacity. It is questionable in the current timetable if Watford also has platform capacity either?
Probably a political gambit as suggested and the forum does not do politics, so end off!

The early twentieth century Rickmansworth-Watford shuttle was cancelled because of cheaper, more frequent bus competition. There is still the 322 bus from outside Rickmansworth station to central Watford running every twenty minutes. If that can't cope with demand, increasing its frequency or capacity would be much cheaper than reinstating a rail service. It would probably also be more convenient, as I doubt a rail shuttle could exceed a twenty minute frequency, and the bus goes to central Watford rather than the awkward Met station.

Which sounds like a suggestion that the local need’s not changed much since 1934…

The other thing perhaps to mention is the LNWR branch to Rickmansworth Church Street, from Watford Junction via Watford High St - opened 1862, electrified 1927, closed to passengers 1952, completely 1967. During the 1930s it was worked by tube stock - the LMSR's share of the Watford Joint Stock, after this had been replaced on the Bakerloo Line.
