Good evening members To allow ChrisM and his fellow quiz team a break from quizzing, they are taking a break during December. So that you don't miss out on your daily quiz, I will be providing a quiz for the first 14 days of December. The quiz will be in the form of a Google Form layout and will be entirely multiple choice. There will be no wrong answers, the aim is to pick the least popular answer! It's very similar to the Pointless quiz you see on BBC1. There will be 5 questions per day with a total of 70 questions overall. The result will be based on all 14 days and you can take part in previous days. In order to have a chance of winning, you need to take part in every day the quiz is published. December 1-14. If you do not take part, your answers will default to the basic score of 100 per unanswered question. I'd like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to the quiz team for their hardwork and particular praise for ChrisM who single handedly edits pictures. Anyway, if you have any questions, post them here. First quiz on December 1st. EDIT As for the rest of December, watch this space Good luck! Don't get stage fright, we won't hurt you! And may I express my gratitude to the quiz team for the wonderful quizzes!

I would support step-free access at every new station. There isn't going to be a new station at Croxley. And making the existing station step-free should not be funded as part of the extension project. There is a separate TfL programme for making stations step-free. No doubt Croxley will be somewhere on the list, ranked according to the number of people it will serve and the ease of achieving it. Or at least a provision for the future. (My bold)

TBH, they will be lucky if they get a line at all, given the situation at the moment. However, I would support step-free access at every new station.

The oldest units on the mainland are the PEP-type: the 313s working the Moorgate-Welwyn/Hertford route, followed by the 314s in Glasgow, the 315s in NE London (Overground and tfL) and the 507s/508s in Merseyside. Apart from the 313s, these all have replacements planned - notably the 710s for the Overground and 345s for TfL Rail. I doubt if any others will be withdrawn - with so many electrification projects under way, most cascades will ultimateky kill poff Pacers. I fully expect 317s and 455s to remain until Crossrail 2 displaces them The 317s still have a bit of life in them (the GN ones I suspect *shock horror*). Class 313, hmmmm, rigged with a homemade CCTV system, slightly *ahem* old and unreliable. The can't hold out forever. The order would have to be bespoke, no cheapo cascading!

What's happening with the Piccadilly? This is going to be a sticking point I presume? Cue engineering work

For the record, it's a Blast Films production for Channel 5. So it'll be interesting to see the angle... With the BBC, you're just ordinary every-day workers. With Channel 5, you're a celebrity. Jack, King of The Gateline ...

I like the delightful euphemism, spillage. Presumably the translation is "pools of vomit"? Like customer incident, or staffing issues (respectively one under and severe shortage of staff which LU had seen coming for many years).

but the ideal solution would be some digital displays that can show only the route the train is taking on it's immediate journey, but we know that isn't going to happen! Yet. *ahem* New tube for London *ahem* Which will probably be nothing like the promotion version. I hope the real version doesn't get its lines mixed up.

It is definitely somewhere on the Piccadilly Line. Am I allowed to guess what is under the black strips? If so, is it destination Uxbridge? As for current station, Hammersmit? +1 Signal failure at Uxbridge, turn at Hillingdon, somewhere in the central section.

Am I correct in assuming that the "Stops Here" on the boards at Earl's Court mean "Terminates Here"?
Also, the picture (below) shows that platform 3 doesn't have this board. Do all the platforms have them?
Edit: picture doesn't work, link here.

Following on from an earlier thread on the Earls Court-Olympia service (maybe the mods can merge this?) I note Sullivan Buses appear to be running a replacement service in September and October. It's probably cheaper and easier than disrupting the main DR service by pathing the shuttles through the busy Earls Court junctions and saves the hassle of formally withdrawing the service. Next replacements are Mon 5th October-Fri 9th October, 13th-16th October, then 23rd October. , Any ideas what buses this is using? This sounds strange...

So essentially, the Metropolitan, Circle, Hammersmith & City, District, Piccadilly and Bakerloo lines are all affected by timetable changes on NR. That's 6/11!

Until 1970, two early morning Sunday trains were supplied by the Eastern Region, latterly using DMUs, between Liverpool St main line station and Loughton, using the original route between Loughton Branch Junction and Leyton Station Junction. Peter Haseldine kindly supplied a picture he took from the front entering Loughton's centre platform road in the winter of 1967. Can anyone explain the shunting signals LT22B and 23? Picture is at onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=3A57A4660877D435!270&authkey=!AAkVuK7qObAWTlI&v=3&ithint=photo%2cjpg Peter tells me the blinds of these DMUs did not all feature "Loughton", but they did have "Ongar". Why? link not working . . .

So back on topic, what other national rail services could (or should) be brought under TFL control? GN inners, Welwyn GC and Hertford North, with some trains extended to Stevenage. Get rid of the Letchworth GC services, they're a bit useless. This would bring some tangible investments such as: - Northern City line refurb [1]
- Quicker acquisition of new trains
- Refurbed stations
- Cheaper fares
- Less seats (more people during peak)
- More staff, longer ticket office opening hours
- Get on the tube map
- More integration with other parts of the TfL network
Govia are rubbish (personal experience) [1] Don't shoot me for getting rid of NSE branding

I was at South Kensington tube today, and there was overcrowding on the stairs to the SSL platforms (also used by Piccadilly passengers). Every so often, the member of staff at the ticket barriers would ask people to stop to let the backlog at the stairs clear. For the 5 or so times I observed this, at least 5, or even up to 15 passengers would just plainly ignore him. I've seen this around the network quite frequently. Why can't there be a button for staff to press which stops all selected barriers from responding to a ticket or an oyster card? It would make it a lot easier to stop passengers. Displaying a simple X No Entry could also be used.

Looks like the public campaign about the blockade has started. NR services give updates on what TfL is up to - why not the other way round? At my local station (Palmers Green), they do give us information, but it is usually rubbish (something along the lines of "This is a London Underground service update. There are disruptions on some routes. Please go to tfl.gov.uk for more infomation). What use is that? Especially at weekends when there's engineering work, you may as well look on your phone. I would do that anyway, especially after I heard "There is a good service on all TfL routes", just after leaving a closed Southgate tube station after a one-under.

I can tell you there are (two per day, I think) rare workings to Battersea Park. I'm sure someone'll be along with the timings soon enough, though they should be easy to find, but this forum does have a policy about rare and unusual workings, Rule 7.1. I hope I haven't breached any of the rules, I was a bit vague. I only want to find out about the services like the one above (the Battersea Park service) which information on is quite hard to find. Thanks.

Could anyone tell me if there are any odd (maybe one return a day) London Overground trains and their timings? Much obliged.
