I had a ride on the infamous 5555, and it certainly had seen better days. There was an alarming smell coming from underneath the carriage, almost like burning. Also one of the interconnecting doors looked like it was ripped straight out of an unrefurbished train. I'm surprised that it's still in service, let alone that it got past early 2013, seeing as all it offers is inflexibility on account of its TBC problems.

Hi John, There was at least one one S7 on the Wimbleware (I won't cease saying that (just to irritate whistlekiller)) and I unfortunately had to spend about 10 minutes to wait for the S7 concerned to eff off, then finally a C Stock train came. I'm sure DStock7080 would probably hold more info.

So I go out in pursuit of a C Stock on the Hammersmith line only to see T246 pass me by at Wood Lane (much to my dismay), then I said to myself "I know I'll try the Wimbleware," can you believe my dismay when it was an S Stock with District Line on the front of it? So I'm waiting patiently for a C Stock Edgware Road

And (forgive me for going off topic) that is the main problem with Wikipedia, half the time it is used to voice hopes/opinions. I remember seeing on the 1967 Stock someone posting, "Deez r sik, 67 Stock 4 eva." And equally getting into a battle against someone who insisted that the A Stock started service in 1959, ultimately I won, and I think antje also helped me win the battle.
Back on topic, Bengley took some photos of the C Stock getting done at CF Booth, would I be right in saying that the majority of the rolling stock is going to Eastleigh in this contract?

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the C08 sets would be among the last to go. What's changed? There's also been suggestions of a couple of farewell tours - one a proper tour of places they didn't go to and another around their regular haunts. Any truth to this? I know where you read, as indeed did I on the "infallible" Wikipedia, it stated they'd be the last to go, but like DStock7080 said, they're gone already.

I went out on the Hammersmith & City today, and I got to Hammersmith at around 1120, and left by C Stock a couple minutes later, and my train was passed by two other C Stocks in quick succession, so this one after 1012 each day must have hit a hitch today.

The C Stock are less than popular due to their apparent unreliability, speaking of which, does anyone have any fleet figure for the C Stock's reliability? Last time I checked (bearing in mind it was 2010 when I last did), their rate was somewhere around 7000km mark, and in this day and age that is simply not good enough, even the considerably more elderly A Stock were achieving better figures at that time. While I do have a level of disdain for the S Stock, at least the Circle/H&C passengers are getting an increase in seating capacity and standing capacity as a result, the C Stock's time is due and their replacement is suitable for the next 40 odd years.

With hindsight, the 1983 stock cars should have been moved onto the Bakerloo Line, enabling the 1972's to be scrapped. It seemed a waste to scrap 32 trains that were only about fifteen years old at that time. The 83 Stock would probably have been too long to negotiate the tight curves on the Bakerloo line, and as DStock7080 already mentioned, there'd be a lack of trains.

Now folks, just bear with me on this one, because it is just a whacky idea that popped in to my head (as many do), would it make any sense to nick the D78 Stock's Dot Matrix Info Systems as they go out of service? It'd save a little bit of money on the "life extension project." The 72's will need them if they are going to be in service beyond 2019 to comply with DDA.

I suspect that if there's anything near irreparable damage done to any of the trains now, they will be on a one way trip to Eastleigh (that's assuming they're getting chopped there). I saw a unit at Acton on Tuesday performing what looked like a fairly odd move, like it was maneuvering in such a way as to go into the works.

Hi folks,
Just heard a worrying suggestion on ye olde flickr that 5234 may be going to get scrapped. Sure, wouldn't 5112 go ahead of it if this was the case?

Still there is same state today, with headlights still on. Was it my eyes playing tricks on me, or were there a few bits missing from the inside of it?

I saw an A60 poking it's head out of one of the shed roads near to the running line this afternoon, it was clear of graffiti, so one assumes this was 5110, or has 5234 been cleaned?

Nothing at Northwood when I got there this afternoon, they must be getting very slick with this whole removal business.

Aldwych +1 IIRC it is the train describer that has been left for a good five or so years at the Holborn end of the platform.

I never met Chris in person, but I have had the pleasure of sharing some discussions with him on this forum (mainly rants) and you could tell from his style of posting that he was a good guy, even if life hadn't treated him particularly well over the last few years. Rest In Peace Chris.

While we're on the subject of the A-Stock, does anybody know what the original intended design life was?

According to the "infallible" Wikipedia, the C08 sets (5606, 5734) are going to be saved by the LTM.

I know that the fast services are now next-to non-existent but I was caught by surprise at Harrow today when I Chesham service was diverted into Platform 1. Not often you see a fast service at all now, let alone the peaks. Anyway I got on it and it didn't feel right at all being on a fast S Stock train, it felt underwhelming when going fast, and I wasn't getting my head torn off as it hurtled into the hills and at the end I thought to myself, "That was just boring!"
I stand by my observation remains the same, sterile and silent, save for them bloody constant automated announcements with the high-pitched, slightly patronising tone...

I must say that I do still bemoan the fact that unless I start a journey at Uxbridge, it is impossible to get transverse seats, or indeed any seats beyond Harrow. I'd still prefer my trains to creak and have character rather than be silent and sterile.

Do we know what form this train shall take? It would be wonderful to see an A60 take charge (after all they did have strong heaters).

Today marks a year since the last A-Stock went on tour... I did mean to do a post on Thursday the 26th, as that would have been more meaningful, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.
Now that a year has elapsed with Metropolitan Line services firmly in the grip of the S Stock, I just want to get some of your insights into how using the line has changed for you, or indeed if you feel compelled to use the line at all now. Do you think that the Metropolitan Line has become just like any other line? Are the A Stock now sorely missed?
Comments please...

If it's a two-car set that you're referring to in Acton Works, then it is 5595/6595 (Withdrawn: August 2009). Or do you mean that there are two full sets of stock in Acton? If so, sadly I cannot help.

The spares issue could have been abated by the withdrawal of the 67TS, with a large parts commonality it will have made sense to heavily cannibalise that fleet and there may now be a considerable spares pool. This is, of course, hypothetical, and such a thing may not have happened. The 72TS still seems to be in fairly good fettle at the present time (save perhaps for the interiors).
Out of interest, did LU do much heavy cannibalisation of the 67TS to get a large spares pool for the 72TS?
