Trains had to be stabled by 7pm tonight because the power supply control room staff had to book off. Guessing they started at 7am, did a maximum 12 hour shift then needed the required 12 hour rest period between booking off and booking on again tomorrow morning. Most of the power supply people are Unite not RMT They usually start to ramp down the service in the evening so that the trains are in the right place in the morning. I guess the strike start and finish times negated the need for the ramp down.

The old RTC. I had my exam for a Guard and Motorman in that building. Although its official name was the Railway Training Centre, it was widely known as 'The School' "Are you going up the school for motors soon?"

ASLEF have not announced any strike dates as yet. They are waiting for the proverbial axe to fall. Maybe the RMT are being a bit premature with this.

Acton Town is closed and evacuated due to a nasty fire in the tyre fitting shop in Bollo Lane. Both the Picc and District are suspended west of Hammersmith. I recently drove round that area on the way home and the smoke was terrible

Did you tell the driver? Unusual noises under trains are treated very seriously.

There is no facility to reverse at Gloucester Road. The nearest place is HPC or via Down St.

Thanks for that - does anyone know why the British Museum limit is still there? I thought the sidings were decommissioned? Increasing the speed restriction would affect the timetable. The current timetable TT 70 still uses the timings that were prevalent before the removal of the points. I suppose they are happy with the timings through the area at present.

How is the service performing with current virus problems? Little posted here in recent times. Pretty much running close to the wire. We lost several drivers on the Central Line over xmas due to positive tests. If we lose any more then there will have to be a special service implemented.

When I was a Guard Motorman at White City when the 92,s were being introduced, I remember riding with the driver a few times. This was in the event the train could be reformed with a 62 stock train. Thanks for completing the picture. I was a train jockey many times and I don't recall us having 3 in the cab, so I expect the Guard typically rode in the saloon while there were train jockeys. I dont know how long the Guards kept up this practice. I left White City for Northfields in the spring of 1994. The Central went opo the following year.

The RMT has called a strike for this coming weekend. Does anyone know whether this will affect Friday's day service or just the running down in the evening? The RMT action prevents booking-on from 0430 on Friday 26-0429 on Saturday 27 on Central Jubilee Northern Piccadilly and Victoria Lines Crikey, that could cripple the Friday day service!

I thought 'ATO Start' and 'door open' required you to press two buttons as a safety thing to prevent accidental operation. If this is so, then surely using a 'defeat device' presents a safety risk and thus to my mind is a disciplinary issue? No. You still require two buttons to operate the train doors. Using this device does not defeat this method. There is no risk of accidental operation unless you overide the safety system. Then it requires the driver to operate the bulkhead buttons manually, so this device would not be any use.

Its pretty much not a company issue, but local management turn a blind eye to them. It saves your back from aching with the constant leaning forward and back while having to operate the door controls while you check the monitors. I use one myself, it makes life easier.

I believe this has been caused by Control Room Staff getting fed up with having to keep working overtime to keep the service running. Maybe this might be a regular thing until staffing numbers get back to normal.

The TfL Board meeting on 28 July 2021 heard that the restart of Night Tube services was under review, but one or two lines could be reopened late 2021. Perhaps this could meet pre-Christmas demand? The first Night Tube services introduced were on the Central and Victoria lines back in 2016. Would they be the one or two lines? Given aslefshrugged 's comments about driver numbers, I wouldn't place money on the Central being the first back. ASLEF negotiated the implementation of the NT drivers into the full time rosters. The NT grade is no more. This night shifts would be covered by full time drivers so there may be a shortfall but they may have enough to run some sort of service.

The original route into the depot which is to left of the eastbound main, has been decommissioned. The track is still there but has been severed so it doesn't lead anywhere. The new route is now on top of the disused Wood lane station platform. Eagle eyed passengers may catch a quick glimpse of the old green tiling.

RMT's announcement on why they called off the strike www.rmtlondoncalling.org.uk/files/rmt_upfront_august_2021.pdfI noticed this This has happened already, back in May we were asked to select one of four options; 1. I do not wish to do any of these night duty shifts on Friday or Saturday. 2. I’m happy to do my own rostered ones when they come around. 3. I don’t mind doing them occasionally (like one set every few weeks). 4. I’ll do as many as I can get. We never had this at our depot.

What's the stance on trainee train ops when strikes take place? From the TfL perspective and from the union perspective. As a trainee you cannot drive a train, so you are pretty much useless to the management. The unions dont care either, for the same reason.

Confirmed by the ASLEF rep "flash-and-dash" starts today but only for trains going into 5 Road, if its going into the other two roads or into the depot we close up on the porter buttons. And if there's a "carry over" its management's problem not ours, we were simply following their instructions. Yes. the onsite DRM will take complete responsibility regarding any overcarries. Fairy Nuff.

Apparently tfl are in talks with the government to disregard track and trace apps pinging causing a high number of staff to start isolating. There are concerns that the underground could grind to a halt as staff self isolate. Daily corona testing would be done on staff who ping.

Most passengers are so absorbed in their iPads, phones etc. With their headphones on they are in their own little world.
No amount of PA announcements' will make the slightest difference.

I used to be a driver on the Piccadilly line and we never had to make that announcement. Must be a local instruction unique to the Central Line.
