Don't know the answer but I would assume it would be an extra turnback point during the Olympics to get the maximum service north of there. Just a thought and not a fact!

I thought its primary purpose was for it to be used during peak hours to bring trains into service at Mudchute heading into Central London to give people a fighting chance of being actually able to board a train that's probably full already with people boarding between Lewisham and Island Gardens.

I would imagine that after spending money having it built that it will be used often. I think trains that are currently terminated at crossharbour will start being terminated at Mudchute just because it increases capacity overall. Does anyone know when it's actually going to come into use because it's been finished for a while now....

Oh no, this means my track map is out of date. Can anyone describe the new track layout please?

It is the same as before, except the siding is now a bay platform. Also, on your track map you have made a mistake with Custom House - it should have an island platform, and the crossover to the east of Shadwell has now been removed, but there is one to the west of the station (as well s the ones at Royal Mint Street junction). You could also update it to show that Langdon Park and Woolwich Arsenal are open.

Having trains reverse in a side platform is not ideal, as terminating trains have to cross the NB track. Reversing in a centre track would be better, but the existing layout at Mudchute would have made this difficult.

Have there been any changes to the centre siding at Crossharbour? Could be made into a through track, connecting with the two tracks either side? Similar to the arrangement just outside Canning Town, this might give added flexibility while trains wait to cross the nb track to enter the side bay at Mudchute as they would be out of the way of Lewisham trains.

I suppose it could, but there havent been any changes to the reversing siding. Is it long enough for 3-car trains?

It can hold a pair of two car trains.
