It is correct the H & C were reversing at Aldgate (I saw one arrive at Barking bay and another odd one out east - perhaps they were up for crew reliefs?), displacing the Met's to Moorgate. But the Met was in such chaos, most of them seemed to have been stabled! A 40 min wait at Harrow on Thurs yielded just three n/b trains, two Watford semis and a Watford all stations. The station staff were getting real abuse Thursday's "plan" was to run the H&C between Aldgate and Hammersmith, run the Circle as "normal" (though less choice of Districts to delay ) and the Met was to run alternatively to Baker Street and Moorgate. There was also a "thinning" of the service to reduce conjestion at Moorgate and through the speed restrictions. The plan didn't go totally to plan and did end up causing some very extended gaps. Friday's plan was different (change of line control staff) and involved trying to run as much as possible - which caused lots of conjestion and a similar effect on the service as Thursday.

Surely, it's pointless in trying to run as much as possible when there's 20mph limits on stretches of the line, as they'll be a pinch point at some place or another along the way! (Even I know that ! )

Can someone answer me a few questions? Is track buckling in hot weather a new Phenomenon? I and people i speak to dont remember hearing about it years ago. Is the problem worse with the advent of continuously welded rail? What is prestressing and what does it actually do and how do you do it? Any answers greatly appreciated My other half is a stressed DL/Picc passenger i would like to let her know what is happening to her service. I was out on heat duties with P-Way on the Met in the heatwave of 2003 and the patrolmen were more concerned about the old jointed rail. They knew CWR was less likely a problem but con rails still needed to be checked. We had to smash a few pots out there as the con rail would move and tip the pots over and cause the rail to go out of gauge. Here's how CWR is prestressed: districtdave.proboards39.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1136487636There's also UWR (unstressed welded rail) installed in short open sections of tunnels with expansion switches at each end. Checks were done like measuring the gaps in rail joints and expansion gaps. Gaps in rail joints sometimes had to be opened up with hydraulic equipment and we could shift a 200m section all at once. As for the current problems I can't say since I don't work there anymore but I can understand the travelling public's and LU's frsutration since I've been affected too on my to and from work. There's been more possession work and engineering train movements than ever which means more specified areas that prevent access to the track at night. A lot of other engineering work is being cancelled for these track replacement works.

Well I have been armed with more information recently, very interesting too I'm not going into details as it's not for public consumption (fans & brown stuff ) - but let's just say the debacle recently experienced is not just to do with stressing the track.

Apparently someone high up at Metronet has resigned over this matter. I didn't catch their name or job title though.
