The background from yesterday is still open as nobody guessed the answer. Like with yesterday, a single part question with a bonus point up for grabs, *Click for a larger version*

I don't think the square is Soho - wrong sort of pavilion. Looks more Bloomsbury-like to me, but I can't pin it down.

Now he know's, but look who spoiled the fun!..... Whitechapel, looking west from platform 3. This is the first time in ages I've actually known a quiz answer! Anyway, it seems others are still not convinced and it wouldn't be the first time I've got a District location wrong.

Not Baker Street Met, but could be Aldgate middle roads. Most likely to be Whitechapel looking west from 3-4.

Knew I'd track it down eventually: the people in the picture looked like students and I was focusing on the University of London. Then broadened out to City University and bingo! Northampton Square. A well-hidden oasis.

Ah.. it's on my territory! I won't ruin the fun of others though! Not Gunnersbury though! ;D And you PM'd me the correct answer. Quite a few correct, and the background identified eventually as well. Whitechapel - view east - taken by TMBA Background: Northampton Square, Islington [Chris M] *Click either image for a larger version*

Your answer sheet is wrong SE13 - that is looking west at Whitechapel, not east!

The error is either mine or TMBA's, but as I've had this picture in reserve for a long time (possibly over a year) I've got no way of checking which of us erred. As I do get my west and my east mixed up on occasion[1], I'll hold my hand up as the likely culprit.
[1] although I have no problems with left and right and my only foible with north-south is a tendency to assume that north is uphill This got confusing when I mislabelled half by photos of Nottingham trams between the Depot and the Hysons Green area where northbound trams descend a steep hill on a section of track that runs east-west!
