There comes a point where things have to be planned for the overall benefit of the service, and not planned around the small amount of occasions where things don't work out. If the underground had been built around such planning, there would be sidings and crossovers at every station. And so there should be ;D

Heard a rumour they wanted to run Harrow without a roster and make the entire depot a pool. Probably vicious rumour but it would be lifestyle-suicide for anyone to go there if this was indeed the case.
Perhaps LU are trying to cash in on the Met being a sought-after line to get more flexibility out of / stitch up the drivers.

The Met get a lot of flexibility out of most of their T/Ops I second that

New depot at Harrow? First I've heard! Neasden is being upgraded to take an enlarged fleet of trains for all SSL lines. Ricky will remain as a crew depot as far as I know. There will be a new Train Operations Depot at Harrow. correct, on the former royal mail site i believe.

COLIN, I'm 99% sure (but without referring to the PTOA) that the Train Op who gets off would have to then stable the train at the nearest depot or siding if no relief is available. The train can't just be left on a running line. Upfast is correct, however that is a situation of last resort after the options set out by Colin have been explored. If the absence of a pick up was known in advance, then the train must be stabled earlier alowing the operator an on time finish or meal relief. A DMT allowing a train to arrive knowing their was no pick up would be in hot water. Earl's Court can often work a round a train for a short period, if a pick up is going to be available but running slightly late. Seven Sisters often used to put trains away a rounder early, but a last minute operator "no-show" would result in the "due-off" operator having to take the train to Northumberland Park, of course this often resulted in the loss of that operator's second half trips.

Yes, I work for Harrow Council and I heard that the site will be redeveloped in a couple of years both sides of the station with the bridge over the tracks.

Wasn't the former Post Office building/site going to become a FE college?

Yep new booking halls and full disabled access etc, the old station is a no go for disabled people, or people using push chairs, or prams etc. Huge flights of stairs everywhere, nightmare.

I knew about Harrow College's plan to build over the station. Is it still going ahead? Metronet had their own plans for step-free access at the station but was put on hold as LUL wanted to work with the college. As far as I know Metronet did restart work on their scheme so I assumed the college had changed their minds.

Though on the the subject of "Where do the trains go?" - there's plenty of space to put in at least four sidings, one between the fast down and slow up lines, and three next to the slow down line, at Pinner - the wideway there is huge! Okay, trains being turned short care of no driver at Harrow-on-the-Hill would have to be taken back that way, but it's not entirely implausible. Easy access for staff, too.

Think Pinner is ever decreasing in size. There is a lot of new equipment being installed there, and at Northwood!

Think Pinner is ever decreasing in size. There is a lot of new equipment being installed there, and at Northwood! Okay, so perhaps you could only squeeze three sidings in... The cutting itself, from the A404 bridge to the station, is certainly wide enough. ;D (I've just spent a twelve hour possession shift walking it plus a hundred metres beyond significantly more times than I really care to when in safety boots!)
