I just saw in u.t.l. that there was a largish power failure which knocked over several signalling systems on the combine, thoroughly wrecking services. Anybody have any details?

There was a "momentary fluctuation" in the power supply when a 22kV power cable tripped in the east end.
Numerous lines and stations were affected for a short time, including the eastern ends Picc, District, H&C/Met/Circle and ELL.
From where I stood, we lost signalling between Moorgate and Whitechapel/Tower Hill. Although the outage was short-lived, it threw the whole system out for a bit and it took a while to get things on the move. The signalling and our computers do not take kindly to having the power blip.
Power supply problems similar to this (though unconfirmed if it was the same cable) occured yesterday morning and also this morning. Fingers crossed it doesn't also occur this evening.

the signalling main east of cambell road (bow road) has 2 mains one rated at 600v and the other at 440v the 440v does the track circuits and the 600v does the rest but when you get a outage of power this can be a nightmare as the two mains have to be in sync with the other (frequency) this can cause bobbing signals e.t.c

Interesting. What sort of kit is used to remodulate the frequencies of the mains to synchronize their waveforms? Can it be done using an ordinary transformer?

An AET and an AVO, really technical stuff. Phasing of transformers is something we had to do as part of our lineman's course but one of those things you very rarely have to do outside.

I noticed you had your work cut out... It was that busy I cannot remember what time you "breezed in," but let's just say it got a bit worse. A lot worse in fact ;D
