I was travelling on an A62 between Kings X and Wembley Park the other day and couldn't help noticing that the compressor (when in use) was incredibly noisy - is this normal or was it simply due to the age of the equipment that the compressor's presence was very obvious?
In other news, I spotted a grey undercoated S Stock bodyframe partially visible in the Bombardier works earlier today - it didn't have a roof/doors/windows; in fact I only knew it was an S Stock due to the bodyframe's shape!

You may or may not know that the A60 and A62 stock compressors are different. The A60 have Westinghouse rotary compressors and the A62 stock have Reavell reciprocating compressors. I have found that the A62 type are more noisy that the A60 type. I never sit in the trailers, I like to hear the PCM working away anyway!

Yep, I've experienced both types of compressor now - I'd forgotten to take a glance at the step-plate as I was boarding but I guessed it must be an A62 when the hammer drill-sounding compressor kicked in!
I think I prefer the high-pitched whirr of the rotary compressors as well - one of my videos filmed at Chesham was recorded whilst the compressor was in operation. I must try and capture the sound of it kicking in as well - just for posterity!
