Whats the bright light that shows in the north west after dark at this time of year?I'm sure someone told me once it was Venus,any budding Patrick Moores can confirm?

Well, they have subtle fairy lights in Amersham, so it must be a late starter off Canons Park. It is Shukra or Venus - Morning Star in the Summer and Evening Star in the Winter.

It's not always an evening star at this time of year. This depends on where Venus is in it's orbit. This time next year you won't see it at all as it will be close in the sky to the Sun. In two years time it will be a morning star.
