OK - Are they running all night? Any thoughts on where the worst bits are? stations/times to avoid? (I'm planning to get back from West London to North London).

Yes, but some stations are closed. Use TfL's journey planner at tfl.gov.uk to plan your journey since it incorporates all the altered timetables (Tube and bus et al), although you can also look at the New Year Travel Guide, available from this page: www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/10353.aspx As for where is going to be busy? Everywhere in Central London. Trains run much less frequently than usual over the night so crowds may not disperse as quickly as you might expect..! As a general rule it'll be busy heading into the centre until shortly before midnight, and then busy heading back out of the centre after that.

Excellent! thank you very much. I am wondering if I'd be better avoiding the centre (I think i'd be looking at a Leicester Sq change, which I suspect will not be a lot of fun). I may shoogle west and go up on the night bus from Baker Street way.
If I don't post on the 1st you'll know it all went a bit wrong...

Well, Leicester Square is only available for interchange/exit from something like 2000 to 0200, so the actual station might not be too bad.. trying to fit on the actual trains may or may not be problematic.

Hello! Made it back in one piece (although I did cheat and take a taxi for the fisrt nightbus leg). Thanks to the peeps on this board for the advice and all the transport peeps keeping the system running all night.

I've got to say a big thank you to all the staff and drivers at LU for putting in the time last night and this morning. It was a great service on the Met with Watford trains running every 10 mins. Hope everyone got through the night ok.
Funk, what service were you operating on? Amersham-Baker?
Happy New Year all.

Oh, surprised I didn't see you. I was surprised a 10 min service was run. 20 mins would have done!
