METROPOLITAN LINE: Suspended between Moorgate and Aldgate due to an incident outside Aldgate station.
So what was the 'incident' then ??

No, there was one under at Aldgate East this morning, this seems to be something different.

In fact whatever happened its caused total mayhem! No Circle, the District running Whitechapel-Upminster and Tower Hill/Mansion House-Western destinations, the Hammersmith & City runing Liverpool Street-Hammersmith and the Met running Moorgate-Metroland.....

It seems it may be something to do with a LFB investigation as its shut down the District, Circle, Met and H&C through Aldgate / Aldgate East !!
Not a good day on the SSR , if anyone gets any further info of whats going on, do tell

See, the bays at Moorgate do come in useful sometimes I'm wondering what could have happened too.

If the H&C is tipping out at Liverpool St, where do the trains go to reverse? And wouldn't this cause some Mets to run short to Baker St that would otherwise run to the city; or are all Mets booked to Aldgate able to reverse at Moorgate?

BBC London News says the police were investigating a "Haz-chem" incident in the Aldgate area from around 15:30 today

18:00 News reports LFB & Police investigating an unknown substance in a container - maybe a security implication here - but report states High Street still open so no exclusion zone established. Mets still turning at Moorgate as I put finger to key.

Hammersmith trains will reverse in service East to West from platform 1. I expect a fair few Mets will be cancelled or short worked to Baker Street as Moorgate platforms 3-4 can only be accessed via a single spur unlike Aldgate.
I'd be more worried about the District. Hopefully, many of the peak hour trains were cancelled before they got into service as reversing at Tower Hill and Whitechapel will be a nightmare!
If it were me, I'd run a Mansion House-Richmond 6tph, Tower Hill-Ealing Bdy 6tph and Edgware Road-Wimbledon 12tph with 12tph btw Whitechapel and Upminster. Having said that, it is not that easy at short notice!

They can reverse east-to-west/outer-to-inner in Liverpool Street platform

That's very true - especially given that the 'Wimblewares' only use 10 trains in the peak offering around 7 or 8 tph! Off peak is 8 trains offering a 6 tph service. Thankfully I'm not at work today, but I'd imagine use will also be made of High Street Ken with regard to some of the western branches

All in all sounds like a very good day to be annual leave ;D
If I hadn't been, this would have been my shift and consequently my mess to deal with!

I was driving the last met to go to Aldgate , arriving at 1535. There was a very strong smell of what i can only describe as solvents at the west end of platform 3. Had a bit of a sore throat for the rest of the day , don't know if this is connected.

Hopefully things will return to normal by the morning. How did the Met cope with the Moorgate reversals?

The cause of the problem was related to work being carried out on the roof by contractors. ..some sort of issue with a substance being used.
