Eastfields was near Grove Road where my nan used to live. Eastfields L/C is still there, and,in the last year a new station (Mitcham Eastfields) has opened there....unusual in that the platforms are staggered with one North of the crossing, the other South.I don't know if the 'box is still there,or if it was closed under the Victoria resignalling in the late 70s/early 80s. Unfrtunately the lovely 'box at Beddington Lane has gone. The line from Wimbledon to West Croydon has been converted to Croydon Tramlink and there is little to show of the old station at Beddington Lane. Even the cooling towers are gone, and the power station is an IKEA! The bay platform at West Croydon is being filled in as part of the preparations for Overground working, and the little 2EPB shuttle trains are also long gone.

Well what a surprise, my nan lived in Grove Road, and I used to pop home for dinner while my grandad used to do my shift for an hour, smashing job that, and such a shame beddington lane has all but gone too, that was a good job, the big wheel, the intriguit single line working, the levers, and overtime was signal cleaning, dodgy when climbing the gantrys carrying parafin. Would love to know more, when did Beddington Lane close then? Id love to travel back but now arthritis has set in and travelling long disttances is but a dream for me, still now a member here will help 100%, thankyou

I don't know where the signal box at Eastfields was, but there certainly isn't one there now. The Quail map says the level crossing is CCTV controlled from Victoria Area Signalling Centre, which is actually located at Clapham Junction.

That's Eastfield, Peterborough, not Eastfields, Mitcham. There was a level crossing at Eastfields Mitcham, before the electronic gates their was the old version with a wheel, I should know I went in there as a boy, then the box went and incame barriers operated by a crossing keeper, I should know I was one of them, thats why Im asking about the mitcham area, but thank you for telling me there was a place in Peterborough as well.

The signal box was near Grove Road, near the roundabout and the block of flats, at the back. When one looked out of the windows one could see Eastfields school, and the two outer home signals we controlled taking notice from Mitcham Junction signalman, and the signal boxm towards clapham ( forgot now)

"thankyou" oh so many wonderful memories, a lovely old box, a joy to work, fantastic memories come flooding back, where do you find these! Oh the inside too with the tokens, the old semifores outside, I see two there, there used to be thmree I think, an outer home, distantant, and home, and I can see me there now plunging 2-1 ( is line clear) and hopefully getting 3-1 back to release the token. When Fawley tanks came up from Mitcham Junction one had to hope you caught the token, if you dropped it one would have to wait until the whole train had passed. I only ever recieved 6 bells from mitcham junction, runnaway, oh these memories as though they were yesterday.
