I can't help on the what and where, but tinyurl.com/6xarbh should (hopefully) allow others more knowledgeable to have a go. Points that strike me about this picture: The "other" track is electified, with rails each side of the running rails,no centre rail. The stock is Full-size ie not Tube loading gauge. The train is in the open, and it's not Drayton Park Stration. The stock appears to be pre-WW1 Each of these points rule out the most obvious answers.I don't think it's a train of London Transprt or its predecessors. My instinct is that it's from a provincial or overseas line, though it is possible it's from the L&NWR Watfrd electrics?

This is the experimental electric train used on the MDR in 1900 between Earls Court and High St Ken with +ve and -ve conductor rails sited outside the running rails. Location, eastbound, somewhere near today's Triangle Sidings?

Yup, must be. It clearly shows the 1898 trailers that were absorbed into the Metropolitan Railways Ashbury/Bogie stock fleet. What a great photo!

Location, eastbound, somewhere near today's Triangle Sidings? That's what I thought. The train is standing in a siding where a row of pillars now supports the development over Triangle sidings. The cameraman was standing roughly where 37 rd now is.

You used the email & IM link code! You should have copied the 'direct' code and put that between the [ur l][/ url] blocks - someone needs to visit the tutorial area I suspect! ;D ;D ;D

You can see the pit at the back of the train.

OK then, we've established the location, but how the flip did it get in there?
Was there a suitable light engine pottering aroud High Street Ken or Earls Court to stuff it in the non-electrified siding?

Was there a suitable light engine pottering aroud High Street Ken or Earls Court to stuff it in the non-electrified siding? I suspect that the electric rails were just fakes to disguise the fact that the train was really operated by clockwork.

I have another picture of the other end of the siding with the current rails in place. It only needed them for a short distance at the exit end of the siding.
