Whilst I am aware that there have been books entitled 'The CO/CP Stock Story' and 'The R Stock Story', has there ever been a definative work about the Q stock? All I have is the reprinted handout from the final tours and Brian Hardy's excellent 'London Underground, Surface Stock 1933-1959' which includes a necesserally brief description of the stock.

Have a look out for 'Steam to Silver' by J. Graeme Bruce, I think there's some on Amazon ATM. Again, it's not definitive, but will give you a bit more information.

No its not that good either! However, as the Q stock was formed from G, K, L, M and N stock too there is a reasonable amount on them.
There is not a great amount on the Q38 stock, as they tend to get over shadowed by the new metadyne equipped O/P stocks. The Q38s were quite low tech compared with the O/P stock, especially as they had to be equipped with the old electro magnetic equipment like the rest of the fleet and in many cases received old EM equipment from the H (C/D/E) stock!

Perhaps this would be a fitting book for someone to write to help fund the future Q stock project?

TP is involved with a new book on the District Railway, maybe it will be addressed here.

TP is involved with a new book on the District Railway, maybe it will be addressed here. It's actually a series which will be in Underground News from next March. I'm on Article 3 already but it starts with the 1900 experimental train.

I would imagine the Q stock would have been ok as a 4 car train. It did visit Chesham on its farewell tour. Before the CO/CP was used, Q stock ran the Edgware Road to Putney Service ok. I expect it would have run ok on the Circle too.

Unless plans have changed, the first car of Q stock for restoration should be going to Acton Works within the next couple of weeks. This is the car nearest the doors, which appears to be in the worst condition (complete with graffiti). This is actually a result of a previous restoration project, which got as far as stripping the car down and beginning to rewire it. It is believed that all the pieces are there somewhere.
All loose items were removed from the car and placed in storage three weeks ago, so Metronet are only getting whatever is still nailed down (not much above floor level), the doors and a few items of equipment. The plan is currently to first check that there is nothing hiding under the floor that would be a barrier to full restoration, and then to begin restoring them to what is being called "static display plus" standard. The plus bit involves ensuring that everything that needs to be done in inaccessible places such as behind the wall panels is done, so none of the restored interior will have to be ripped out to complete the restoration in future.

I expect it would have run ok on the Circle too. In its final form, Q Stock could operate as 4-car, 6-car or 8-car sets. They occasionally covered District Circles on Sundays as 6-car sets.
