Just wanted to write a quick update at EOR. Within the shut-down restoration we are returning the stations to their period colours, and following HMRI approval of our AIP, we are installing loops and signalling to control the new layouts. We hope that the signalling will include restoration both mainline and LT examples, to reflect the varied history of the branch and so some LT equipment is saved in preservation.
The team has been making excellent progress at North Weald, fixing the rotten frames, getting the glass in, complete exterior decoration, fitting shutters, stripping back and complete restoration of the Saxby & Farmer Duplex frame, auditing the locking, complete interior decoration, first signal now up.... etc
We take the preservation and educational aspects of our task very serious and given our wide remit for all ages and origins of equipment this presents an opportunity to show the public how signalling has evolved through the ages, show LT & NR signalling and perhaps save and preserve signalling equipment (doing its original purpose) that people cannot see in use on other railways? Most of all we are open to ALL offers of equipment and materials, as our key aim is to get operational so we can bring steam back and re-instate this local transport link.
Partly as a result of NR’s recent scheme down-grades, our relatively recent entry into preservation and equipment from NR projects magically disappearing (!), we are urgently searching for signalling equipment and S&C, including relays and lever locks (of any type), box equipment and point control, we could also do with a few extra S&C so we can lay more sidings and house more C&W!
We have friends in transport and can easily arrange collection using licensed, rail / PTS trained, HIAB equipped transport (sometimes at very short notice), and are willing to pay the scrap price for the rail, we are just missing the opportunities.
For example any items you may have or you are aware of, which are "wrong region", "never going to be used", filling up your storage that you would like to see go to a good home or that you or your friends are taking out and that you feel could do a few more years or for example are “non-standard" and going spare to a good home we would be happy to collect and restore and can easily find a use for within this project.
Due to our late arrival we do not have the stock-piles that others were able to establish when things were easier to obtain, and the key aim is to enable the return of steam & heritage diesel ASAP so we can once again run trains. I hope that the railway community can demonstrate our ability to pull together to help ensure that EOR does not become the first heritage railway that cannot run steam due to a shortage of S&T equipment & redundant S&C!
On behalf of the whole team at EOR, we are very grateful for any assistance you can give, and of course the more people helping (either coming down and joining our friendly team, or helping with contacts) the sooner we can re-open.
Kind Regards, Simon
