Now I know the Wimbledon line tries to kill itself in the lightest of rain (Alan showed me that in action!) but on Saturday it was a dry day yet the line was still doing funny things.
At Fulham Broadway I was wanting to get upto Edgware Road and looked at the boards and thought to myself "good good, only two minutes" and then a D-Stock came around the corner so I looked up at the board and it had changed to two 'City/Upminster via Victoria' services, with the Edgware Road train now 12 minutes away. Eventually the C-Stock came around the corner and I rode that upto my destination but it wasn't a one off. I had to cover various parts of the branch later on in the day a few hours apart from each other but a simular thing was happening in terms of the board changing it's mind a minute or two before the train was due.
What would be causing this to happen?
OT: I also think I saw trainopd78 at Wimbledon Park around 3pm(ish)?

Whilst I wasn't working saturday, Fulham Broadway used to be one of my stations - so perhaps this explanation will help.
The Wimbledon branch does suffer from problems with the platform indicators, especially when trains are canceled or run out of sequence - this happens quite a lot at the moment because of the ongoing remote booking on/off dispute at Acton Town. The signal system between East Putney and Wimbledon doesn't necessarily pick up on this, so trains are not corrected untill they reach Putney Bridge eastbound - which is one of the reasons why the platform indicator at Fulham Broadway will suddenly change with a few minutes to go. Also trains turned short at Parsons Green or Putney Bridge will 'upset things' as they re-enter service on their eastbound journey.
BTW - the rain problem was sorted a few months ago, unless anyone knows different.....

the t/d system down the wimbledon line can only be changed at Parson's Green the WARS machine (which belongs to NR and controls the wimbledon line) can only put up 2 t/d's either High St Ken or City (which is usually a upminster) when the train comes into putney bridge the t/d is then changed via the programme machine so if thats wrong the t/d will be wrong but the signalman cannot phiscally change the t/d until it reaches Parson's Green. the problem signal at southfields which used to give grief everytime it rained was sorted about a year ago and this was due to wet beds on the track causing a track failure.

It was about April last year I saw it. It's not just that though, it's just the various times I've been on it in the rain the branch seems to have something wrong with it that causes trains to turn back early etc

Well, it was all going wrong at Wimbledon today - apparently we only had 1 platform, so lots of trains were turned at PG or Putney Br. Not been down there so don't know any details.

The problems blew all my training plan right out the window last night! I was intending to do Wimbo -> Edg Rd x 2 - ended up getting as far as PG 24rd on the 1st trip and Ealing Broadway on the second. And before anyone 'quips' - yes, we were meant to go there! The fun was exacerbatted by the single minded inability of the signal operator covering the Ealing desk to know when he had trains waiting. In typical fashion on picking up the signal phone the signal miraculously cleared. Oh - and this didn't happen once - it was THREE times As for the 'core' problem - I don't know. I heard that trains were being regularly tripped on W375 (Wimbo home signal) which was returning to danger but this doesn't explain why only one platform is in use; I can only guess there's a more deep rooted problem than the traditional 'bobbing' in the area.

So your trainee got a rare chance to take a C stock to Ealing Bdy? Sounds like good training to me!
