No, it wasn't anyone's mobile or anything. At 9 in the morning on a Sunday my wife and I were the only passengers. It was definitely coming out of the station's loudspeakers both in the entrance hall, with the swastica, and up on the platform. I'm sure it was being used as a chav deterrant.

The classical music is played at certain stations east of Barking over the loudspeakers. As already mentioned it quite effectively stops gangs of kids hanging around the station. A simple idea, but works well from what i've seen.

They were playing classical music at Amersham on Thursday, no idea why, as it's not a place for gangs to hang out, they tend to do it in more secluded places (quite a lot around the station).
