Just out of curiosity, what sort of planning usually goes into a event such as a major shopping mall's opening? I'd be curious to know what sort of crowd control measures will be in place for the Shepherd's Bush station area (incl. the LOROL station). Also, I'd be curious to know how many White City drivers will forgo the sarnies and flask and be seen chowing down in the food court

I read on the BBC site that 80% of the shops are going to be clothes shops!
Diverging slightly, the staffing levels at Wood Lane on the H&C are pretty low, usually just one SS and an SA. Bit worrying as the station will be quite busy.

Usually extra staff are provided for events such as the opening of this shopping centre; in the form of Revenue Control Inspectors, or staff on overtime from a given stations group - we now also have a 'special requirements team' made up of qualified station staff, so perhaps they will have a part to play?
So I think that for the opening of the shopping centre, extra staff will be provided - in the long term though, like Tubeboy says, the staffing levels are rather low.

I suppose that there is always the flexibility to increase staff levels at a later date, should the need arise.
If it's 80% clothes shops, I certainly won't be going there, except for a peek when it first opens. In any case, Lakeside and Bluewater are both closer to be, and I only go to those in emergencies!!

There was traffic marshalls every where there today! They had a one way walking path (including on the road at a few points!
Tho having a model of 59/62TS in a shop window still got me!

I went along this afternoon and it was unbelievably busy. Loads of marshalls around outside, but very few LU staff in evidence either at Wood Lane or Shepherd's Bush. In fact the stations were quite quiet - it was the streets that were packed!

Well if my local, Lakeside, is anything to go by..........it'll only be really busy an hour either side of opening/closing times. Outside that will be relatively 'normal' and you'd never believe thousands of people were within a stones throw of you.
I suppose another way to look at is to think of an event like a football match or concert - busy at either end of the event but nowt in the middle.
Of course there'll be 'noticeable' disruption at weekends as we build up to Christmas, and during January, but that'll be about it really.

Shepherd's Bush has got busier and they've had to put a semi-permanent barrier in to get people to use the exit via the westbound platform system. First day was rammed but haven't been in since, might pop in on the way home tomorrow now this has come up.

When I went to WOod Lane a couple of days ago, I didn't actually see any directions to the shopping centre - maybe it was just me! I went to Westfields - still a shopping centre, but quite nice. A very good quality lebanese food stall and a 'risottoria' stood out to me. Was impressed that it wasn't just McDonald's and KFC - apparently, they weren't invited!
