Thanks for the pics - very comprehensive coverage - I feel like I know the station before getting there Were you given any indication of a possible early opening before February? Structurally it appears complete, with just finishing works and staff training and proving runs to go. IIRC the Lewisham extension was open around seven weeks early opening - due early January 2000, actually opened late November 1999.

There are at least two oyster machines at Canary Wharf DLR now.

Great photos. The scissors crossover seems to be a rather long way from the platforms!

Bored overrun tunnels!* (*Woolwich Arsenal and the approach to it is cut and cover, with the bored tunnels under the Thames a fair distance away, so these are highly unusual) Will this make it easier to extend the line past Woolwich, if they ever want to?

Absolutely, since you don't have to worry about tunnelling into the station box. Though the line faces west (and slightly north), and there's nowhere obvious for it to go.

Hey guys, glad you liked the pictures! Took me long enough to uplaod them all for you!
Answering some questions -
The first DLR station to be gated, this is due to the fact the NR station is gated and there is easy interchange so DLR had to install gates (other wise you could walk from DLR entertances to the NR platforms.
The ticket machines are of LUL design hence the LU logo on something that was abit of a point with staff.
As for early opening, well the hand over was early of the offical openning and even now they are running ahead of the so much it was mentioned a few times. They are just putting the finishing touches including wiping down all surfaces so its going to be ready soon. The retail unit on the New Road entrance is due to be finished during Jan (its a n empty concrete shell at the moment hiding the SouthEastern platform signds for the DLR).
The bores on the west side of the station are over run bores. This is because of the need for 23m from buffers to a wall. The southern most platform (down line) is slightly deeper due to the platform (I think 5m was mentioned). Just for reference the over run at Bank is long enough for 2x 2 car trains (in other words too current trains).
The cross over is the only point on the extension where trains can cross the track (next one is west of King George V). Just to point out that the crossover is as soon as they come out of the tunnels and straigh after ther is a 90 (it might be nearer 100/110 tbh) degree turn (so a train heading for Woolwich goes over crossover facing south but enters the plaforms facing west).
The station reminded me of the island platform at North Greenwich, not because of the side (its not that big) but the general layout of the station.
The cant in the tunnels is 5% which were we told is the max it could be. Also someone has gotten a spray can and marked where Crossrail is going to pass over the tunnels in the down tunnel.
The points every 100m with a blue light really work are are clearly defined for when someone has to use them. The fire main under the walkway has hose attachments every 50m.
if I rememeber anything more I will add it!

Hang on, the Thames tunnels surface facing west, and the station points northwest. Have a look at the diagram on page 6 here - I think the crossover is in the yellow bit.

The trust me the is a corner between the platforms and crossover. I know this as I did the track walk from the up plaform till the intervention point yesterday (roughtly half way through the extension). This picture taken just after leaving the platform shows the corner before you get to the crossover. www.flickr.com/photos/mackenzieblu/2981101933/in/set-72157608455386357/

Sorry, that link should be to this. None of it is quite at the angle you'd expect. Thanks for the pictures, btw.

The ticket machines are not LU design, but are the units designed for DLR and now being installed across the network, I think the LU logo was on the gate controller unit.

Yeah, the ticket machines look exactly the new one First Capital Connect just installed at my local station. It's an NR design if anything.

Also all of the signs refer to Bank and don't mention Stratford International. In a year and a bit the station will have services to both.

Stratford International is due to open July 2010 so there will be around 17 months inbetween Woolwich Arsenal openning Stratford International so plenty of time for new signs. Ive got a feeling that they will be putting the International Extension on around feb next year when Woolwich opens. Something like this maybe? www.flickr.com/photos/mackenzieblu/2978867258/in/set-72157608407909058/

So why doesn't the map at Woolwich show Stratford International as 'under construction'?

Ive got a feeling its to do with the need to really redo the whole DLR network map before Stratford International can be shown.
