Well after a few years off jaunting it in the private sector Metronet staff are shortly being TUPEd back into LUL! news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7687426.stmWell that went well. I look forward to welcoming Tube Lines back as soon as possible!

Now I was under the impression that the long term plan was to farm Metromess back out to the private sector ASAP - ie, LU/TfL's involvement was supposed to be temporary.
Have the goalposts now been moved, or is this not actually the good news it's appearing to be?
I have to say, I'd be extremely surprised if there isn't more to this than meets the eye........

Given the complexity of everything else to do with PPP on the Underground, I cannot believe it can be as simple as that!

The official line remains that long term plans are still undecided. The question is whether the Metronet brand continues to be used. LUL staff have already been working in key posts in Metronet since the administrators took over. I think someone may be looking at costs and it would be interesting to see if there is a degree of merging of functions such as the Engineering Directorate.

If this will get the people in the engineering directorate (no caps on purpose) working for the benefit of the railway then I applaud it. They've mostly stood in the way of the PPP since day one. Metronet's contract team were never a match for LUL's bunch either. Tubelines have largely the same contract but are much more aggressive and ready to say "OK, take us to court". That's the Bechtel influence IMHO.

From what I understand it seems that Metronet continues to exist as a TfL owned company seperate to LUL. Except its former employees have transferred to LUL but continue work in the "Metronet Businesses".
