I kept meaning to take a pic of that, but always remembered as I was departing the station ;D. There's a similar 'misplacement' at West Ham eastbound (which should be gone by now, but I bet it'll still be there ) - that talks about customers for Edgware Road.

And talking of helpful annoncements, the Richmond closure code for the refurbs has been advertised at booking on points - which is great as it last's till next sunday.
Pitty we haven't been told the code for the Waterloo & city closure - afterall, that's only shut for FIVE MONTHS!!

Mind you how many t/ops do you reckon have just pulled into the station and out of lack of interest have just read out the notice. I reckon at least one has to have done it.

Would there be an objection if I forward it to Private Eye?

And can you guess who typed up the notice, and then faxed it to the depots on Saturday? And if there had been an option on the refurb for the W&C closure, it would have been included as well - unfortunately, the CIS only allows minor delays or severe delays on other lines

An annoying omission is that there are no codes for the closure of an entire line, partial closure of a line or partial coverage by buses (except for sections of the District it's self) Minor and major delays are acommodated as well as delays on C2C and any station closures plus some other odd stuff.

Ah, but one way or another, you'll bound to find out 'that' information soon. You'll, quite by mistake, press one button too many on the PIS thing [NOT rude - Passenger Information System] and it'll announce the line is closed/service suspended.

hehe *envisions several DR t/ops drunk on tea pressing too many buttons and sending out announcements of the like: "This Train is for Upminster. We Regret to inform you that Upminster station is closed due to a security alert"
that would boost passenger moral (not)

So why do we never get given the codes?! The line controller is supposed to make calls telling drivers what codes to put in ...but since they need re-entering at each terminal that rather relies upon the controller calling you conveniently each time ...or your having made a note of the codes. 499 is worth remembering though "Cannon Street Underground Station is Closed" ... you still need to push the station closed button upon leaving Monument or Mansion House though or it will say "Cannon Street .....is closed ...The next station is Cannon street ....." but it's much better than the "the next station is closed" bland announcement.

Alternatively, they could issue a book of codes to the drivers with controllers telling them the code - then they can look it up again.

or stick a sticker in the cab of the popular codes... Just one problem - there are hundreds of announcements - literally In fact the full list is 16 A4 pages long ;D ;D

Perhaps in time someone will spend a few hours punching codes into the DVA and produce an unofficial 'log table'.

The main codes are posted on a cab wall transfer. As Solidbond says there are hundreds of other announcement codes ....not sure why a list isn't issued to those who want it ....though I've no doubt many drivers would not use them

No need for an unofficial log table - there is an official one, but it is not issued to drivers. As I said it is 16 A4 pages long, and they don't want drivers searching through to find out what numbers to punch in To give you an example of the announcements available, Think of almost any sections of the District that may be closed due to engineering works - there is an announcement for each one. There is also an announcement for service suspension between those same places, but NOT because of engineering works. Then there is an announcement for delays on each other LU line, either for minor or severe delays. Then there are announcements for ALL LU stations that tell passengers the station is closed. There are also station closed announcements for each Main Line terminal. And announcements for various special events around London, such as the Marathon, the Boat Race etc. You may have guessed by now the extent of the announcements ;D ;D

16 pages eh? Makes the selection available on the 92's look kind of, erm... limited shall we say?

Used that code (190) for the first time tonight! It announced the closure at a few places through the city, then I'm obviously easily amused, as I almost wet myself laughing when just after she announced the service suspension approaching Turnham Geen, she then follows up with "The next station is TG, change for DIstrict to Richmond!"
I'm not sure why I found that so funny, but for some reason I did! ;D Can't even blame the medication now! ;D

Used 499 tonight - very nice it was too. Just a pity it announces it as you're passing through Cannon Street I know Mansion House/Monument are very close - but it would be nice if it announced it prior to leaving the previous station. As for the CIS in general, it is a good addition to the refurbs, BUT......it also makes the job unnecessarily hard at times. It takes three buttons just to say "mind the doors" - and it won't say that straight after it's previous message, you have to wait 20 seconds (but 'they' want station stops to last a maximum 20 seconds!). "let passengers off the train first" - there's no point even having that message. It will only announce it 20 seconds after it does it's thing when you open the doors, which goes on for too long as it is at the likes of Victoria. Also we can't stop it announcing the W&C line, so we have to make a manual announcement. We can't stop it announcing the H&C at Aldgate East when there's engineering works, so we have to make a manual announcement. It doesn't announce the Circle line at Tower Hill, so we have to....... See what I mean? ;D ;D ;D When you tell it to announce things like Cannon Street is closed, or there's engineering works TG-Richmond - it doesn't change anything. It will still announce the complete opposite of what you just told it. So it can make 16 pages worth of announcements. Great. Pity they're all useless. I'd rather just make manual announcements where needed - I have to any way cos the ruddy thing doesn't know it's rear from it's elbow ;D ;D I much prefer the C stock version. Nice 'n simple - one button and hey presto, it knows exactly what to do [/rant]

It does make some sense - you have to get off at Turnham Green for the replacement bus!
