The connect project will begin its roll out from February 2006. The District is scheduled for July.

For those who don't know, this is supposed to be the new 'all singing all dancing' radio system. It will, we are told, allow communication between staff as per the current system (where only the line controller can hear both sides of the conversation) - as well as between individuals, and was supposed to have been introduced 2 years ago  |

It is for internal usage only, mobile phones use GSM signals, the Connect project uses TETRA (to integrate into police systems well, etc).

TETRA uses different frequencies to 3G and GSM used by consumer mobile phones.
