Aside from the rant, wot are WAGs and PODs, please? It would help the understanding of your views on reflected/refracted light and otherwise inconsequential tropospheric illumination. ;D

Bwah! WAGs are them 'Wide Aisle Gate' thingys. PODs are the little 'pods' you get on the top of the gates that show the codes. Unfortunately, with all the other useless LU acronyms I've been asked to store, I forget what it stands for – passenger something or another. I swear on it – ticket halls defy the laws of physics on occasion and can create their own atmosphere.

I believe that WAGs are Wide Access Gates rather than Wives and Girlfriends (to the best of my knowledge v3.1 is not celebrity obsessed). From the context, I'm guessing the PODs are the bit on the top of the gate where you get the status code, etc when successfully (or otherwise) using your ticket or oyster to pass through the gate. If this is so, the D is likely to be "display", but the P and O leave me stumped (Power On Display? Passenger Operated Display? Pass Operated Display? or, possibly, pi$$ed Off Dogsbody?)

POD=Passenger Orientated Display Am I the only one finding the green and red in/out arrows and crosses increasingly difficult to read?

Am I the only one finding the green and red in/out arrows and crosses increasingly difficult to read? You're not the only one, especially in stations where the ticket halls are greatly illuminated by daylight. Going by the years the current majority of UTS gates have been in service, how long those gates remain switched on (and the fact they're ever rarely powered down) and the current LEDs in the PODs, they have obviously decreased in brightness. The matt diffuser that goes on top of them doesn't help the clarity either. I don't think I've ever seen a POD replaced or tinkered with. Ever. Only gates being put in or ripped out.

Only gates being put in or ripped out. The POD once in a blue moon gets serviced/cleaned, have seen it a few times. Clearly your too busy working to notice the tech doing it.
