Does anyone out there know of a source of 'OO' scale (preferably whitemetal) Ward couplings? I have tried to fabricate some out of plasticard and, while they look the part, they are very fragile and easily damaged. Thanks.

Do you want them to actually work? If not, use radley models Standard stock ones are ok. I use them on my T stock as Met buckeye couplers
If you want working wards, use the kadee ones.

I don't need them to work. They're just for cosmetic reasons on the leading end of Battery locos/Q stock etc.. Didn't realise that the Radley models ones were available as spares. I'll have to give him a ring. Thanks Metman, you've successfully liberated me of some more of my money. The kids will have to eat next month!!! ;D ;D ;D

Aw! Just ask for the standard stock coupling part. Talking of couplings, how do you couple your trains? I use a bent piece of wire which is inserted into a hole in each bogie headstock. Simple, but effective!

Only being in possession of one surface stock coach at the moment I haven't had to think about it but I'm sure that my couplings will be to a design that pays homage to those inspirational figures Messrs Heath and Robinson! ;D

I don't think that William Heath Robinson would have wished to be split in two. There was a book of his drawings published in 2007, under the title of Heath Robinson Contraptions.

Sorry to confuse. I merely paraphrased a quote from an old 'Western' movie I saw years ago. 'May I introduce to my two friends, Smith and Wesson!'.

He enters a room to confront a baddie. The baddie does the "You and who else?" routine, to which Harry says something like "Me and my two friends....." I LOVED that line

Have you considered the Bill Bedford type lost wax coupling that is now manufactured by Brassmasters.they have a good representation of both buckeyes and traditional couplings between carraiges with pipes connected as well.I have used these in the past and although a little expensive they certainly look the part. Go to brassmasters.co.uk and follow the rolling stock kits link on the left Cheers John

The movie was 'Sudden Impact', number four in the 'Dirty Harry' list. As for couplings, on my Q stock I am using the original couplings but with one side shortened to make the gap less obvious.

Yes, there is a huge gap isn't there! That's why I went for the piece of wire!

I shortened the half of the coupling with the pin on it and made a new pin from an old Lima buffer and a sleeve on top of brass tube. Remember what I was saying about Heath Robinson....... Looking back I should have measured how much I shortened it by for future referance and to let everyone else know. 10 years on 66s dulling the brain, but then you know that already!
