Do any of you District drivers ever race any Network Rail trains especially on the Wimbledon branch?
sorry for the brief, I'm at school

The District Line runs on Network Rail although I believe LU now owns the branch but NR still have access privs to it as it uses their infrastructure.
No National Rail services operate on the branch except during early mornings, late evenings, and during depot movements to Wimbledon Park.

There's virtually no opportunity to 'race' NR trains on the Wimbledon road, as it is double track throughout (apart from the short distance between Wimbledon Station and the NR depot).

If you want racing with NR the DLR between Limehouse and Tower Gateway is good fun!

I would have thought that racing trains is rather unprofessional and dangerous, and not something that professional drivers would do.

Jeez louise I didn't know you'd go all factual on me.
There are plenty of times you can see trains racing past you on the wimbledon branch.
It isn't professional, but if your within speed limits and alert of signals I cant see the problem with it

There are two places where it's possible to race other trains running parallel in the same direction. Between East Ham and Barking eastbound, the c2c runs right alongside - and their limit is 40, wheras ours is 45 Between Acton Town and Hammersmith we run alongside the Picc. If you ever get on an eastbound District at Acton Town leaving at the same time as a Picc you'll see that we absolutely cane them! I would agree with DescendingSadly - obviously you're an idiot if you get so fixed on beating another train that you hit a red signal or exceed a speed limit, but otherwise it can be a bit of fun to brighten a driver's day.

I've noticed that d-stock trains always accelerate a bit harder away from Hammersmith and Barons Court...this isnt anything to do with beating the little trains is it??!! Interestingly, the D's always seem to get ahead...

Out of the LU vs NR "wacky races" theme here for a second... "racing" at London Bridge headed East is better... higher speeds and trains crossing points coming towards you! Always feels strange when you look out the side and you see a train crossing towards the adjacent line to you at speed in the same direction!
Though I must point out I use the word racing in the loosest possible term and of course drivers should never break limits or rules just for the sake of racing.

One of the best races i've been in was during the May Blockade of Maidenhead earlier this year on the NR metals...
2 Class 180s (deliberately dispatched at the same time) running parallel... both ran neck and neck for 2 1/2 miles until we got past 75mph...

I wonder how 'cool' a driver would look coming in for relief at a station waving his arms in celebration and looking extremely happy
