I spotted this sight at outside Acton Town yesterday...... Nearly there....... Yes, it's trailer car 17110 on it's way to be spruced up. DM 7110 of the same unit was being put on a lorry at the same time, meaning 8110 was already on it's way

Good pics Colin. Though I've witnessed this a few times now I've never had a camera with me (at least that I've remembered that I've had..... : It is an impressive feat of driving though; the space they have to play with is VERY limited, and they need to do it all as quickly as they can as it's a pretty busy road junction they're blocking up!

You have to wonder, if it is possible to do it in an easier way?
There is a Pic in my tube book of a standard stock train going in to a depot in the back of a traction engine, this pic is pretty similar but with a 70 year age gap.
I like the contrast in age etc...
Though i have to ask, can they not take the trains out via rails rather than by road?

Thanks for the kind comments - I actually took those on my camera phone . Most of the pictures on my fotopic site are with the phone too - I actually find it works better than my digital camera. As for the movement in question, they were actually so quick, that I didn't get time to take any pictures from any other angles . I did consider waiting for 7110, but I was finished for the day and eager to get home..... You have to wonder, if it is possible to do it in an easier way? When they eventually get the connection at Upminster sorted................ ......................... .............................. ........................ ........................ Is that wire comming out the back of the trailer for a headset to communicate with the driver? Not quite - there's a bloke at the back (on the end of said wire) controlling the 'steering' wheels on the trailer. He communicates with the driver by means of a hand held radio.

If you look at the second photo (very good photos too - especially from a phone camera) you can see the rear wheels offset from the axis of the trailer. Hard right-hand-down by the looks of it. Pending the connection at Upminster, couldn't they access the mainline network at Ruislip depot via the Uxbridge branch connection?

yes, the pictures look great, even the full size ones don't loose resolution too badly.

BCV and Tube Lines want to charge SSL a great stonking big pile of money to make use of Ruislip's facilities for moving D stock - that was why the Upminster connection was planned.

All these different companies working within the same system charging each other to use resources, it's terrible.

I would have hoped/thought that the Rail Regulator or equivalent would force companies to provide access and services at market- and not punitive rates. If they are, it merely shows that the road haulage industry is not paying its full whack - once again.

it is surprising as BCV and SSL are running like one company now in many aspects i would of thought BCV would give like the secret handshake to SSL and let them use ruislip but then again transplant is controlled from tubelines so i guess its not that easy

I must admit though that the reasoning for not using the Ruislip connection for D stock must be either very good or very flimsy...

Bl**dy hell COLIN those pics are amazing! I never thought you'd get quality like that from a phone It surprise's me sometimes too ;D For those who are interested; it's a Sony Ericsson K750i. It's fairly new out and is very similar to the W800i (though with less emphasis on the MP3 player). The camera is 2m pixel, which I don't think i'm wrong in saying, is the best available on a phone - and it's one of only 3 or 4 phones that have it that good.

I must admit though that the reasoning for not using the Ruislip connection for D stock must be either very good or very flimsy... Just a guess but maybe with Metronet struggling to meet track replacement programme targets they don't want anything to jepardise preparations for BTR weekends at Ruislip which has Transplant and rail loading facilities. I know there are plans for Balfour Beatty to build a depot for this purpose at Croxley but I don't what's happening with that for now. Only last weekend, the possession between Gloucester Road and Tower Hill had engineering trains leaving Ruislip on Friday and Saturday night to the possession through Acton Town. After the Central line possession they'll be three more on the District in January and February.
