When on earth will they get the train describers fixed? There aren't often SAs on the platform during the middle of the day and surely it's a bit dodgy to have passengers trying to peer over the "don't go past this bit" barriers to look at the back of trains?

Looking at the back of a train won't do you much good anyway (unless it's a refurb) - some of the trains will show Upminster/Barking etc. or the train may have been diverted.

The Train Operator should be making an anouncement, but District Line operators dont seem to like using the P/A with only a few who do use it

Admittedly you'd have to know the difference between C and D stocks - but providing you know it's a District, does the destination matter much here? If you're on the wrong train, simply change at Earls Court. In any case the destination/line should become clear at Aldgate East - unless you have a 'don't give a brown stuff' driver. Of course knowing where the train is going using the platform describer boards would be an advantage, but I wouldn't build up any hope of seeing them working soon

Whitechapel is only a station I pass through anyway, I just feel sorry for all the tourists who look lost after coming down the stairs onto the platform. I'm usually at the back of the train [going to Aldgate East east entrance, shorter walk to the stairs ] and I see them all looking at the train and going "eh what's this doing now?"

"This is a District Line Service via Liverpool Street. Yes, we know, it's gone wrong again."
