Say i worked in the city (Victoria Station, for arguements sake) and lived in Upminster. It would be quite possible to get the District to and from work each day. But could i buy a ticket from Victoria to Upminster, hop on a District to West Ham, then change to c2c and travel to Upminster on the mainline, thus saving myself a little bit of time? Or would i need a seperate ticket?

You would need a separate NR ticket to travel on c2c.
If you're LUL staff, the staff pass allows you to travel free between Fenchurch St. and Upminster. (IIRC)

Doesn't that all-zones travelcard allow point-to-point journeys via any route then?

Doesn't that all-zones travelcard allow point-to-point journeys via any route then? A Travelcard (depending on how many zones you buy) allows you travel on Buses, Tube, NR or Tram (and 1/3 off Riverboat prices) I think Teaman is referring to an LUL only ticket between Victoria and Upminster but if he does indeed mean a Travelcard then yes it would be valid between LUL/c2c services as long as it is valid in the zones between Victoria and Upminster. (which is 1-6)

You would need a separate NR ticket to travel on c2c. I don't think so - c2c is fully gated from Fenchurch Street to Upminster and is included in the listing of NR-compatible PrePay routes. AFAIK it has the same revenue-sharing arrangement as the Chiltern/Met services and the Bakerloo/DC services. The OP's Victoria-Upminster ticket should most definitely permit him to take c2c from West Ham.

Correct Answer! C2C do accept Oyster Pre-pay on stations between Fenchurch St and Upminster. Just remember to touch out again... I forgot to and now have a permanently unresolved journey on my card! There is no way of clearing it... other than completely zapping the card to the point of uselessness (though I question the usefulness of Oyster anyway!).
On the subject of Tram travel... did you know safeguarded and new entrants to the National Rail network can use it for free? SCORE! ;D

I thought so but I do remember that in the 60's a lot of commuters used to get caught out and bashed because of a ticketing anomaly. If they bought a ticket at Fenchurch street for Upminster they could go part way on LTS and the rest on the District. But they could ONLY do it if they changed lines at Barking. If they went to Upminster by LTS and then rode back to Hornchurch or somewhere east of Dagenham they were liable to a penalty fare.
There used to be regular 'raids' at Upminster when hoards of LTS and LT travelling ticket inspectors would congregate there (sometimes as many as 40/50) and stop anyone getting off a down LTS train that headed for the District line. In some cases they would also have a bunch riding back and forth between Dagenham East and Upminster too. Two or three to a car. Where the heck they all came from is anybodies guess. The number of people they caught was phenominal.

How fortunate then that common sense has prevailed and that you can use both types of ticketing on both services with no one batting an eyelid. I've ridden on c2c once or twice and never seen an RPI...

That also used to apply Euston to Watford. (Now Silverlink Metro)

I've ridden on c2c once or twice and never seen an RPI... Since the 4 car trains went opo, some of the former gaurds became Revenue Inspectors. You now have more chance than ever of seeing one on your journey Also just to clarify (as someone who sold tickets!), ANY ticket is valid between Upminster and Fenchurch St / Tower Hill You can change as much as you like at Barking and West ham. There's also Limehouse to Tower Gateway on the DLR, but single and return tickets issued by LUL or c2c are not valid on this option, (same applies to DLR singles and returns in reverse).
