Does anyone know if the MET 10 ton brake vans had a handbrake wheel at each end or only one end? I'm building a SE finecast kit and I'm sure to guess wrong if I don't ask! Thanks.

You really do need a copy of Jim Snowdon's book . He has done a beautiful set of goods vehicle drawings as well as the passenger ones. It's worth every penny of £20 just for the drawings.

Sounds like the perfect book. Where do I get one without having to order online? Would the Ian Allan Bookshop in Lower Marsh Street, near Waterloo have one? If so then I could be there on wednesday next week.....

One question. Does the book contain any info on the bogie wagons as used on the Watford tip workings in later years? I know some were originally built in the thirties but other than that I've drawn a blank. I have to have SOMETHING for my battery locos to pull!

I don't think so. My copy of the book is currently buried under a pile of non-UndergrounD but railway-related stuff; so I can't immediately check - sorry.
EDIT: I've unearthed the book from the stratum in the other library; and unfortunately (for you) there aren't any bogie low side drawings, but there's lots else besides to go gooey about! ;D

Thanks for that. If your library is in anything like the state that mine is in then can truly appreciate your efforts!

The MET brake van is almost finished. It's only now it's ready for painting that I have noticed that the kit was lacking one coupling adaptor! The other end of the train will have a partially scratch built Hurst Nelson van. I know that a 'London Transport 20 tonne road van' resin kit is available but it is just the Smallbrook Studio LSWR road van kit with no mods. The LT vans differed by having vertical planking instead of horizontal, no double doors on the side, no paneling on the guards ducket and a slightly modified end with no arch in the rear cut-out. The body of this was a bodge and a half from plasticard on a Ratio chassis while the roof comes from an Airfix cattle wagon! All I need now is something to put in between them! EDIT. After looking at the above mentioned book in the Ian Allan bookshop today I have found out that the first batch of vans ordered by the MET to this design were near enough identical to the LSWR road van. This means that the Smallbrook Studio kit as marketed by Radley Models IS correct. The Hurst Nelson vans of the thirties were a later developement. I apologise unreservedly for any confusion this may have caused.
