Was at Green Park today waiting for the next Vic train. According to the Info Board, the next train wasn't in service. However, up it came, full of passengers, with the passenger blind displaying 'Brixton'.
2 main points:
1. I suppose the info board gets the information from the signals, and knows how far a train is away by which signals have cleared and which haven't? Or not?
2. What causes this to go wrong and can it easily be amended?

I suspect that there may have been a problem with the 'Identra' - if it's still used on the Vic as the prime means of train identification with all the Victoria Line Upgrade work. The Train Op might have set the knob to the wrong position. More gen to be found here and a closer up view of the Identra panel: here.

Identra is indeed still used on the Vic. The dot matrix displays incorrect information quite often. It's an old system.
There's some debate going on at the mo between LU and Metronet, as to whether the new trains will need to be fitted with Identra for the period of dual running the 2 stocks and signalling systems. There have been tests carried out recently of running a 67 stock around with the Identra removed and seeing how the signalling system behaves. Not sure what the results are though.

"Not in service" is also displayed by dot matrix boards if the Identra has been set to "special." Some drivers had it set that way today because of the engineering works (no service HBY - WAL).

Interesting to know that there have been recent test without the use of Identra - the equipment was a relatively late addition in the building of the Vic.
It's more of an overlay system (as I understand it), supplementing the routing codes on the Programme Machines, (comparison between these and the Identra driving the displays) and whichever of the machines drive the next trains out - S4 at Brixton and S3 at Walthamstow.
Out of interest, (I know it's only vaguely related to the thread) how often is 'SSW' used as a destination at Cobourg?

Once at Stockwell NB, Walthamstow was displayed for a train with a blind saying 'Seven Sisters'

Once at Stockwell NB, Walthamstow was displayed for a train with a blind saying 'Seven Sisters' I've found that to be a very, very common problem on the Victoria line. DMI information completely at odds with the destination shown on the front of the train.

DMI information completely at odds with the destination shown on the front of the train. It's all to do with the resistance of the wires (not to mention generational technological difference) between the Identra receiver and the DMI. The base information of the Dot Matrix Indicator comes from Cobourg, via Programme Machines with the pick-up of the Identra being a 'check' rather than an 'instigator' in the whole convoluted process. There would be a difference if it were assumed passengers knew where they were going, rather than customers (who need to be informed). ;D

Slight change to the subject but Ive had the same experience on the Jubilee lately. Including a jounery from Waterloo to Stratford in an train the boards said was out of services yet the train said it was going to Stratford the whole way!
