I am quite interested in the T stock at the moment considering as I am building a unit for my model layout!
In the early days the T stock or MV/MW stock ran in 7 car trains M-T-T-DT+DT-T-M and from the 1930s in 8 car trains. These sets were regularly uncoupled into 4 car trains with a driving motor at one and a driving (control) trailer at the other.
It seemed after the war (WW2) that uncoupling ended, and T stock trains ran as either 6 or 8 car trains. What happened to the Driving Trailers? I have seen pictures of T stock trains in the 50s and to be honest the DTs are randomly dotted in the units! Some trains are M-T-DT+DT-T-M, some are M-DT+DT-T-T-M and others are M-T-T-DT+DT-T-T-M! Can anyone shed any light or give any thoughts?
Cheers

Two thoughts: I'm not sure when uncoupling of T Stock was finished. Perhaps mrfs42 has some WTTs which show what was done after WWII. My recollection is that uncoupling was abandoned on the Met at the beginning of WWII and was never re-instated until A Stock was completely delivered.
The other thought is that there was some reason why DTs were normally coupled in cab-facing pairs. I suspect that they couldn't couple a cab end to a trailer end. There is no reason why trains couldn't be formed of anything available, including block trailer sets. It is also possible that some of the DTs were stripped of their equipment as spares became scarce.
Anyone got a copy of the T Stock operating instructions?

Sadly I've only got the F stock instructions, but I've certainly got a good spread of end of WWII - A stock introduction WTTs. Watch this space.
