Whats the story with the disused exit, where did it go to/from and why do they not use it any more? Is it just a case of not having to employ extra staff to man the barriers?

It was the original GN&CR entrance. It closed when the escalators arrived for the Victoria Line. It was closed as the escalators could handle all the traffic.
There were plans to reopen it for the ELL extension - I don't know whether they still plan to use it.

Unfortunately the waybills stuck to the outside of the building have defaced it somewhat since its restoration - I hope LOROL spend some money to give it a deep clean.
