I've got a May 1979 line diagram which shows interchange with the Jubilee and British Rail only at Charing Cross - no Northern Can anyone explain this? Was it a printing error and if so is that why a number of these line diagrams are still available for a bargain price at Quainton Road?!

The Bakerloo diagrams never (I think) showed interchange with the Northern at Charing Cross, because it was a very long walk between the two. Embankment is very close, and the walk somewhat less, so interchange was indicated there. I can't recall, but imagine that the reverse was also true, i.e., Northern not showing Bakerloo interchange at Charing Cross.

On the line maps in the trains, Charing Cross was not shown as an interchange from Northern to Bakerloo until fairly recently.
Last time I boarded the Bakerloo at Charing Cross, there was no down escalator service from Trafalgar Square so I entered via Strand. It was a fair walk.
Where exactly were the Jubilee Line platforms?

I noted the 'TO ALDWYCH >>-------->'...how far off the Picc station did the tunnelling end? Can't have been very far.

I think I've read somewhere that the tunnels extend approximately 2/3rds of the way to Aldwych. I don't know how far that is though.

Charing Cross was like Liverpool Street/Moorgate Crossrail, only with one station name (as no line stopped at both bits). I don't think the Central line would show interchange with the Northern and vice versa at their respective stations. The SSLs obviously wouldn't. Likewise it makes sense that the Bakerloo and Northern just had interchange with the Jubilee shown.

I know the tunnels touched the piles that support King's College while they were being driven, causing frantic phone calls.

I know the tunnels touched the piles that support King's College while they were being driven, causing frantic phone calls. The infastructure maps show the tunnels ending at the level of the west side of Somerset House - i.e. reaching beyond the limit of Waterloo Bridge and as far as Aldwych (the road, that is).

Where exactly were the Jubilee Line platforms? At the bottom of the escalators down from the BR station entrance, there are some large doors directly ahead. I believe the escalators down to the old Jubilee platforms are still there behind those doors.

That's darn near the station! That's practically IN the station It's further than you think - 250m / 840 ft. Remember, Aldwych has it's platforms under the Strand/Surrey Street junction, just clipping the corner of the buildings. There is the whole of King's College, and then Somerset House before Lancaster Place (under which the Jubilee tunnels end) is reached.

A great help - thanks. David suggested getting the Jubilee Line when this happened - but I reminded him that it no longer served Charing Cross.
