A rare sight indeed (sorry for poor picture quality) www.babycakes.homechoice.co.uk/DSC00014.JPGEdit by Colin: image changed to a link due to it's gross size - I don't think I've ever seen such a large image posted on this forum!! At 1632px × 1224 pixels & 345.05 KB, it breaks the forum image limits ( found here) by a very large margin. Sorry sorry.. I forgot, I didnt look at the post after I made it I just clicked post... I thought since I took the pic with a mobile phone it would be small !! Sorry (not that technical when it comes to pictures and that)

Sounds like the likes of First - it's very common over on the buses.
Can C stocks not screen Amersham?

That destination was written on the reverse of one of the bulkhead cardboard advert car cards. At that time C Stock destinations only had Harrow-on-the-Hill, Wembley Park and Neasden north of Baker Street (I think)

During the staff shortages of the early 1970s, it was quite common for Circles to be commandeered by the running office at Baker Street to work on the branch. This one in the picture is a Circle from the inner rail service.

21146, concerning the picture of the C stock at Farringdon with the Wimbledon destination, I know that driver very well, in fact he was the first driver to drive a C stock on a District line working. It took place on a Saturday, the C stock ran up from Hammersmith Depot, reversed, and the District crew then ran it empty to Triangle Sdgs ready for its Monday morning start up.

Should have also mentioned it reversed at Edgware Road, then ran empty to Triangle Sdgs. Nice to see a picture of a clean C stock rather then covered with scribble or etched windows.

What stock is that? It looks a bit like the Vic. Is that what they had on the Northern before the 95s ?

It's a trial refurb of one the 72mk1s (you can tell as it doesn't have the calling on light that the mk2s have)
Was the single line working due to a landslip?

Yes, this must be a 72mk1 stock train. There is no calling on light or grab rails or step plates. This train is probably on the Bakerloo now and has been converted into a 72mk2 stock train. Either that or it is the one rotting in the Acton Works!

3202-3523 wasn't actually a trial refurb, apart from Mk1's that have been modded to Mk2's,no Mk 1 72TS was ever refurbed. It was one of three trains that had trial liveries,3202-3523 happened to get the Orsman livery.

I wasn't aware they'd used single line working due to that - I thought that they were terminating some trains at Golders Green but would have thought they would have used the siding at Colindale. However, it is before my time and of course, they could have been running single line between GG and Colindale.

There was single line running back in the late 70's, when they were removing asbestos from the tunnels between Golders Green and Hampstead. They also had single line running for a landslip near Totteridge. I don't remember an occasion after that though, although the photograph indicates otherwise. Having said that, something is nagging in my mind about some weekend engineering work related to embankment strengthening . . .
