Am I correct to claim that only one train was utilized for this service? I got a Summer 1958 Underground Guide in the mail--the first, and potentialy, the one in my collection having this service.

Only one (at any one time) G23 motor cars[1] and TT [2] lines in the open air, if memory serves. [1] appropriately modified to be double ended - think two were converted - was District train '99' for yonks. [2] Tunnel Telephones in this circumstance.

It was the first OPO train on the Underground.

Before those, they used a double ended B stock motor.

The B Stock motor car was No.37.
When 4167 and 4176 weren't available, a 2-car crew-operated Q Stock was used. There was no problem in getting a guard for this, as one was rostered for single car working anyway, in which case, when the single cars were being used, he sat spare at Acton Town.

Wow - could you ever imagine that happening in these days of cost-conscious "privatised" companies? These days in some places ANY sort of spare is a bonus!!
